  • Im now about half way through my 1000 books, woo hoo, and ive found one im having trouble with, its 'tales from shakespear-lamb' there is no printing info at all in the book and the introduction is dated 1898,

where do i look next ???

    Hi Mishka

I find abebooks.co.uk is good as a check on values of older books.

I see someones got an 1807 set on for £3,529.30!!!!

If the introduction was written 1898 maybe this is the 1901 edition on at £21.69? "Dutton, 1901. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Good -. No Jacket. Walter Paget (illustrator). First Edition. Book covers frayed. However; book is complete and restorable. Previous owners inscription dated 1902 is on FEP."

    HTH

PS I'm still "lurking" at the moment. I've got a specialist religious bookseller coming soon to buy all the older religious books I've inherited, then after that I'll start up on amazon!

Rescuing this thread from page 2.

Have had 4 sales now since my listings went live again and one of those I completely messed up on. Got £4.71 after fees and it cost me just a shade under £5 to send, so an overall loss. I thought I had stopped making stupid mistakes like that, but this one fooled me as it was only a paperback, but it was a collectors edition so the paper quality was very good and it weighed a ton. Obviously though when I was rejigging my prices I just saw 'paperback' so matched the lower priced copies.

    Stupid Soolin:o

I've alo had a book returned as not collected and I'm really cross. This was sent on the 7th October and it cost £5.31 and I only got £7.11 for it, so will make a loss if buyer demands a refund. However, I haven't had any response at all from the buyer so I suppose I just sit here and wait now to see what happens.

    Hi everyone,

been away from this board for a few weeks while I sorted my debt problems out, so been spending a lot of time on the DFW board getting advice with my SOA etc. I now have a plan in place and am working towards paying my debts off.

Anyway, back to amazon. Sales have picked up for me significantly since end of october so that's great, back to 23 sales in 7 days :j
I hope everyone else's improve, hopefully november will be a great month for us all. I am buying as much stock as I can possibly find in charity shops and bootsales because I have a bet on with my husband that I can top septembers profit figure (which was my biggest month to date), so wish me luck!

I was so sorry to hear about soo and matt loosing their listings for several days...that must have been very painful, not sure how I would have coped with that, it would be very frustrating - good luck getting your fees refunded matt!

Why don't we set a mini challenge from today until 8th december to see how many items we can sell, or if we prefer how much profit we make in a month, personally I think numbers will be better as some people don't like talking money. If everyone has a look at their previous months to check out how many items you sold, then whichever was your highest use that figure as a target to beat, then we can all work hard, grab as much stock as possible and see if we can give ourselves a nice christmas amazonian bonus. How does that sound?

The highest number of items I have ever sold was in september and was 77 items so:

Katchambers target for 8th Nov-8th Dec .....80 sold items

    Let the games commence

  • Hi Kat

I love a challenge and although I have over 4000 books listed I have only listed 30-40 new books in the last month. I have several hiding in the garage ready to be listed - so this can be the motivation I need to list them.

8th October to 7th November sold 94 books - shows how stagnant my stock is :(

FFM target for 8th Nov-8th Dec .....100 sold items (and to empty the garage of unlisted books)

    FFM :)

  • I'm in too - my best month was in august, I sold 102 items.

My challenge is sell 103+ between november 7 to december 7. I've got just over 900 on the go, it slipped to about 850 at one stage but I've been hoovering them up with a vengence.

I'll set my target lower as I seem to sell higher priced books, but fewer of them. So from this morning until December 7th I'm going to try for 30 books.

Actually, I'm cheating as I sold two this morning already!

This'll get me going again. Have been losing motivation as family do not understand addiction and struggling with growing number of books.

Also I have a rival for books. I saw her in my local charity shop and she had a big bag of books from my usual supplier, a house clearance place (bag of books for £1). She was looking at all the books I would look at.

    Last month sold 16 items.
Target next 30 days .......18 items

GREAT! Glad people are up for the challenge.

Maybe we could keep a tally of it and update it every sale/day, either in our signature or at the bottom of a new posting on here. Mine will be in my signature.

I've sold 2 so far today, got about 20 books waiting to be listed, plus I am going to hit the charity shops on friday, bring it on!!

Because I am sad I have just worked out that there is 31 days (inc today) in the challenge ( I know I am a math whizz!) and for me to meet my target I need to sell 2 and a half books per day. I have already sold 2 today so hopefully someone will buy half a book off me later tonight ;)
