Also I have a rival for books. I saw her in my local charity shop and she had a big bag of books from my usual supplier, a house clearance place (bag of books for £1). She was looking at all the books I would look at.

Sorry, next time I'll say hello....
  • This challenge sounds good. I have about 380 books listed at the moment so I am going to go for a target of 50 books to be sold by Dec 7.

Lets hope this will get my sales moving as I have had the worst week since I started selling!!

GREAT! Glad people are up for the challenge.

Maybe we could keep a tally of it and update it every sale/day, either in our signature or at the bottom of a new posting on here. Mine will be in my signature.

I've sold 2 so far today, got about 20 books waiting to be listed, plus I am going to hit the charity shops on friday, bring it on!!

I can't add anything to my signature as I will exceed the suggested length, so can I please be allowed to just add a brief post every day, or every few days please?

Soo (3 so far today on Amazon)

EDIT to say 4 now sold on Amazon..my best day ever!

I dont really understand this quantity challenge? Anyone can sell 100 penny books a month.

It should be about profit per month.

I may only sell 50 - 100 books per months but they average over £ 10 per item.
  • I think that we are concentrating on quantity rather than amount because we are being very British and not talking about money :rotfl:

I'm not sure that I can sell 100 penny books per month, I'd be very pleased with myself if I did!

Profit though is harder to quantify. I rarely sell 1p books, most of mine are £10 or thereabouts, yet sometimes the really really cheap books actually net me more money. I also find 1p books harder to sell purely because of the competition.

At the moment though all my books today have been between £1-£7 which is low for me, but all of those books are thin enough to go as large letters which is great.

    Soo

Also, these are all personal totals as we are trying to beat ourselves rather than each other, so it doesn't really matter how we quantify what we choose to declare. I have never yet sold 30 in a month, hence me wanting to see if I can!

Aw c'mon Amazombie, we're just having a bit of fun!!! :p

It's given me a great incentive to actually get off my butt and do some listing.

I've listed 30 books tonight that were just gathering dust in my garage.

amazombie - I understand your point, but as soo says, it is hard to go by profit because everyone will have different levels of what they subtract from turnover, plus it can be a bit funny talking money. At least if it is quantity it is fair and we have the same yardstick. I have had as much trouble selling 1p books as I have had selling others so it's not necessarily the best tactic, hence why I no longer sell 1p books. Plus we have all set our own target based on our own best months to date so we are not out of our league by competing with the likes of FFM and AT with there over 100 figure!

Annie - why don't you start the challenge from today until 8th dec like the rest of us and then you will be on an even keel - unless of course you are happy with your 22 (which is pretty good).

Anyway, I have sold another now so that makes me on target, at least for today. Also I have just finished listing the stuff I had lying about like dvds and cd's so my stock level is now 717 items.

'Fraid am not in the same league re selling challenge but would like to join. I only have 140ish listed at the moment. Best month was October when I sold 9 so will go for selling 10  That might inspire me to look in the as yet unpacked boxes I've hidden out of sight from when we moved house 2 years ago - I'm sure there are books in some of them. Also planning to go to the next town for a vist as there are loads of charity shops there [we only have two] and that will also very nicely double up as a good way to avoid doing my essay ;)

Sold one today towards my challenge - hooray :j
