    1. Luton isn't London (despite what the airport may claim). But I assume you mean you've not been to Luton either.
    2. The DVLA have a sneaky get-out from the Data Protection Act whereby they can sell your data to anyone with good cause (the parking companies claim they have good cause, even when they don't)
    3. It's more likely to be a number plate misread by the ANPR cameras than a cloned car. Did the ticket from APCOA have close-up photos?

    "Docklands" airport is in London;)

There is almost no "London" outside the M25 ring and a lot of area inside the M25 ring that is not "London", it causes problems with such things as "freedom passes" ( a supercharged bus pass) and parking restrictions - not to mention council taxes.

You get really impressive photos with the penalty notice if you go inside the central London congestion charging zone and forget to pay: A photo of your vehicle plus nice close up portraits of you the driver and a landscape close up of your numberplate, all taken in the dark without a dangerous visible flash.

Poor old Big Brother; he is 64 and getting about on his freedom pass if he is still alive; otherwise he would not realise he had been born were he to re-emerge in the paradise of the modern world.

    Welcome to MSE!

Please read some threads & advice on the current forum not here, this thread is old and rambling!

Then start your own thread if you don't see the answer. But every current thread is like yours and the advice is the same, IGNORE IT - unless you want to try the POPLA appeals scheme for any new ticket in England & Wales after 1st October which is issued by a BPA AOS member. Then ignore it again!

Start by looking closely at the links & pictures on the third from top thread - not sure what threatograms Balfour Beatty use (they are members of the BPA AOS scheme so the'll probably send a few letters to the registered keeper).

Currrent forum (you could have gone there just clicking on the breadcrumb trail blue link as mentioned in my signature, but here you go):

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

The thread called 'PPC letter chains' near the top, tells you pretty much all you need to know about this scam and what sort of letters get sent out, and has useful links.

Just a reminder not to bump this old thread please!

I was parked in a 2 hour parking bay 1800mm wide (can be up to 2400mm according to D of Trans), my car is 1850mm wide (quote manufac's handbook). So I'm charged with "not parked within markings of bay"!! Even hard up against kerb it would be physically impossible to park legally.
I hope to appeal on grounds that this bay is not "fit for purpose" (no restrictions are posted prohibiting wide vehicles)
Also, I have used these bays regularly for a year without being charged - which must sanction the legality of my parking through "custom & practice" (if thats the term?)
I have photo evidence showing I was NOT causing any hazard or obstruction at the time AND several other vehicles parked in the same bays with wheels over or cutting the markings (no tickets issued!).
I welcome helpful comments & advice for my appeal. Thanks.

  • bit of a sell out for the dvla isn't it?!! seems just about anyone could get your details if they wanted. no photos provided just scare mongering in the letter, thanks for the geography lesson as you can tell I really haven't been to that area. thanks for the reply
  • I always thought if your wheels were clear of the double yellows you were ok to park. Someone recently told me that any overhang of your car can get you a ticket. Does anyone have a link to a government website that sets this out please.
  • You guys should check out expertanswers.co.uk i got a parking ticket and wasnt 2 sure if they really could enforce it so asked their solicitors. Thought it was better to get professional advice and only cost a tenner. Did have to pay in the end but hey you never know, you might be luckier!

Was it a council ticket or private?
Might be a good idea to start your own thread.
