i feel fine and my summer doctor's revision had me in a1 condition.
İ feel fit and healthy and never hungry. One of my long term goals was to negate my appetite- When i was young i was a keen sportsman and developed a 'see food eat food' attitude to food.
Now i feel in control of my eating habits and i never feel i am missing out by not over indulging. i do watch calories because its become a habit that i have learnt since i became a rationalised dieter (here!!),
İ ocassionally go out for meals at restaurants but i chose the healthy options and restrict any alcohol to just one or 2.mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
i remember those days--i was the one sitting in the pram in the 60s--my poor mum had to take the 4 of us to the shops without the aid of a car-we grew up with good eating habits but the excesses of being able to afford everything, the slowing of metabolism coupled with no 'have to' exercise takes its toll--we are better off but not as healthy in a natural way--i drive to the gym and it will never become a natural part of my lifestyle--i just aim to cut my calories as that sacrifice to modern living!!
As we get older, yes, we do need less calories, but I have found that it's a matter of quality rather than quantity. Really good-quality food and no 'rubbish'. That means, for me at least, no ready-meals, no take-aways, no 'junk food' at all. No chips, whether these are of the fish-shop kind or the McD's french fries. There are one or two fish-shops that we know of round about that will happily serve a nice piece of fried haddock in lovely crisp batter, and don't bat an eyelid when we say 'no chips'. That means, we don't go for the cheap OAP meals which consist of fish, chips and bread and butter. And we only have the fried fish occasionally when we really fancy it. And obviously, no biscuits. These seem to be a habit with so many older people - they can't have a tea or a coffee without a biscuit, or three. I was quite proud of myself last evening. I had no calories left, we went to a local political meeting and I knew there'd be biscuits. I said 'no' to a glass of red wine, yes to just a coffee, no to a biscuit although there was a plate of biscuits sitting on the table facing me and I sat looking at them for about 2 hours. My concentration on what was being discussed was not all that good!
Fresh fish is another matter, it's protein, and we love freshly-caught mackerel from the fisherman's co-operative. We know that when they say 'fresh' it was probably caught this morning. Mackerel is oily fish which is good for you.
I rarely eat a potato these days - if I do it's a small jacket potato with salad. Just had a quarter of a Melton Mowbray pork pie, within my calorie allowance for the day, with wild rocket salad and tomato.
We don't often seem to have an evening meal any more. Usually if I've had a good lunch that keeps me going for ages. If I had enough calories left I might have a bowl of Dorset cereals Super Cranberry muesli with Rachel's yogurt.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

STS just for a change. Surprised I didn't have a slight gain.Knee has been giving me hell over past few days so have been totally vegetating. So I'm celebrating by having a cheeseburger for lunch :rotfl:This is actually breakfast and lunch, will make up for it by having a sensible dinner :A
