I wanted to get weighed this morning but put it off. I feel like I've lost weight and feel positive because of it. If I get on those scales and see I haven't well my attitude will change for sure.

No news is good news :)
  • -1lb this week.

Got kinect last night - only tried adventures so far but was fun and will certainly burn off a few calories. Trying kinect sports and your shape evolved tonight.
  • Its a good -3lbs for me this week which I'm delighted with as I went to Amsterdam for 3 days and drank a lot and didnt eat particularly well! I also missed fitness last night!

I wonder if its something to do with being away from the stresses in life and relaxing. Ive been back at work for an hour and I already want to hand in my notice and I'm already thinking about what to have for lunch.

Thanks for the link, it looks really good. Will try and have a better look at it later (when DS's asleep!) and decide whether to sign up. Cheaper than ww or sw at least!! Are you using it? Do you find it helpful?

    Thanks,
    Flis

Yes, I'm using it and yes, I do find it helpful. In fact, apart from this thread it is the ONLY thing that I've found helpful. You can try it free for 24 hours and see what you think. I've looked at both WW and SlimmingWorld and neither of them really 'do it' for me.

Be careful of the low-fat items. Some unscrupulous manufacturers have increased the sugar while reducing the fat. Aim to eat some protein. My standby is cottage cheese with pineapple, I often have that as a snack.

I have found that, because of advancing age, metabolism slowing down, general lack of activity etc, I really have to stick to 1100 calories/daily and I have to be quite obsessional about it. Last year sometime I went to see the nurse practitioner at the surgery and she advised 1200 cals/day, but I think she was also following SW guidelines because she talked a lot about 'free foods', and said that potatoes, pasta etc were 'free' meaning I could eat as much as I wanted of them! Well, no. I couldn't, not and lose weight which was the object of the exercise!

It's a learning curve. I have found out a lot of things. Mainly it's how your body works and what you have to do to keep your weight in check. Although, I must say that when my 2 daughters were little I was the slimmest I've ever been, but then, in the early 60s we were still very very active as a matter of course. Just making a phone call meant bundling them into the pushchair and walking to the phone box in the village, about 1/2 mile there and back. And there weren't the convenience foods, ready meals, take-aways etc and we were not so used to snacking. So, I'd like to get back to how I was then, but no chance of ever being as active again!

i remember those days--i was the one sitting in the pram in the 60s--my poor mum had to take the 4 of us to the shops without the aid of a car-we grew up with good eating habits but the excesses of being able to afford everything, the slowing of metabolism coupled with no 'have to' exercise takes its toll--we are better off but not as healthy in a natural way--i drive to the gym and it will never become a natural part of my lifestyle--i just aim to cut my calories as that sacrifice to modern living!!

i have come to the conclussion that i maintain my weight on 1200 cals with no exercise and to lose anything i have to do exercise and eat my 1200--i am 5ft 9 and my bmi is 23,3--and male---this affects the callorie allowance i think!--myfitnesspal assesses your metabolism rate---it goes down as you get lighter -i started about 1700 and have gone down to 1567 since i lost my excess weight--i have just looked at my diary from when i started my diet and i have lost 13 kgs in 10 months(7 months of exercise involved) so it has been a reasonable rate of loss--

I don't know if it is me, but 1200 calories a day for a man of your height seems amazingly low for a maintenance eating plan. Have you seen a GP for a few tests on your metabolism etc? You really should be able to have more than that!

i dont know why but if i go for more than 1200 calories i quickly build weight--i eat three controlled meals a day --museli for breakfast---something like salad and tuna for lunch and my main meal at night--last night it was small cauliflour cheese--i have given up drinking and just have a parchant for coffee and tea with semi skimmed--if i keep to this sort of intake i dont gain--if i exercise i loose as quickly as i gain--i put on 6 kgs in 4 weeks back in the uk!!---it seems my metabolism--i never snack or have naughties!

  • Flis: they are really really positive small but significant changes:T:T And 7 minutes exercise is still a sucess. All these little amounts will add up.
Not jumping on the scales all the time is a very good approach:T
Really good start Flis. Just keep that sort of thing up. And on days you slip, don't beat yourself up: this is a long term thing, not a quick fix.

if your felling fit and healthy and full of beans and bounce around like the proverbial tigger then keep doing what you are doing
