  • Hope there's nothing nasty lurking for you Marion.

Quick SW EE question...the cereal's listed for HEB don't include oats for porridge. Given that the syn number for 28mg of oats is the same as the same quantity for the HEB cereals when listed in the syn list, can I assume it is ok to have the 28g oats for porridge as an HEB?

Victory: are you numbers balancing better these days or are they still all over the place?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

  • Retiredlady - The contrast they give you to drink isn't what tastes vile (according to DD) it's the cordial they mix it with:eek: (very cheap and especially nasty), we take our own juice mix withus and the nurses make the contrast up with water and we flavour it to DD's taste. :D

Hope the scan shows what you needed it to, and that you don't need too many more pic cushion attempts.

Eric - you do make things seems a little more straight forward, until you mention low GI, I could do with some pointers in that line?

I have changed my coffee for de-caf, dropped the coke cola  too which was a lot harder than I realised.
Only trouble is my DH did the Asda order (so I wouldn't buy food we don't require apparently) and a raspberry pavolova fell into his order... Gawd it was good!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Off to hospital tomorrow so may not post a weigh in but will opt for a STS please Fredsnail.

You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.

    Hi All,

Can I join you please? I have been thinking about starting a weight loss plan for ages, but finally feel in the right place mentally to tackle it. I suffer from depression, so I comfort eat a lot, had a bad bout of post natal depression this year after my second son was born and i've now gone up to 16 stone (although this is not my heaviest, was 17st about 4 years ago).

However I finally feel I have the depression under control, I have a lovely support network of friends, we've moved to a lovely new house and I am in a really positive place.

I have done sw, ww and slimfast in the past, but just want to try changing my habits this time, more exercise, eat my 5 a day, cut down sugar and fat. Try to make it part of my life instead of a diet plan. Am hoping this will work to be a more long term plan I can stick to to get weight off for life.

I have also just purchased a wii fit board and game, so am going to aim for 3 sessions on that a week to start with, hopefully building up to 5 sessions. I find it hard to get out to do exercise because of my boys (they are 10 months and 2 years), although I do go out walking and to the park with them quite a lot which helps. Am sure I would be bigger if I didn't do that!

What day of the week do you all weigh in? Or do you all do different days? I got on my scales this morning and I was exactly 16 stone. Am going to set myself mini goals, instead of thinking how much I have to lose altogether!! First mini goal is my housewarming party in 2 weeks - want to lose 4lbs by then.

Am looking forward to getting to know you all and sharing this journey.

    Flis xx

Just calculated my BMI and it's 37 . Going to do measurements as well, it's nice to use not just the scales to look at progress!

Caffine is adictive, most people myself included get migraines when you cold turkey off it (it causes the arteries to constrict and the migraine is them relaxing allowing extra blood flow)

I am not anti carbs but I do believe they need to be controlled heavily especially when trying to loose weight.

the concept of GI (glycemic index) is very straight forward, they feed carb foods to test subjects and monitor there glucose / insulin profiles for a few hours to see how fast the sugar gets into the blood stream. the faster the sugar gets into the blood stream the more insulin the body makes to deal with it, if the body releases alot of insulin quickly then it is possible that blood sugar levels will drop too low and this is when the body starts shouting at you eat carbs to bring the sugar levels back up (and in some people this starts a cycle of carb binging). Sucrose (sugar) has a benchmark rating of 100 a slow release cab has a number lower than 56 so rolled oats (the best grain) is 51, so try to pick carbs with lower GI numbers, steamed veg are superb (i bulk out on them) but you can have bread just go for low GI ones like http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/sainsburys-price-comparison/Bread/Burgen_Soya_And_Linseed_Bread_800g.html?BannerID=66&AffiliateID=94852&AffiliateName=Ciao+UK&AffiliateBannerID=0&utm_source=AffiliateWindow&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_content=0&utm_campaign=94852

    http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/

by eating a controlled amount of carbs (i recommend 1 third of your intake) and by making sure there slow release carbs your insulin levels quickly stabilise and a lot if not most of the hunger cravings go

I would however avoid high fructose corn syrup, although this has a low GI its a man made sugar and does not exists naturally, it would appear that the body can not "process" it properly in the same way we have problems with trans fats (hydrogenated fats, another man made substance), there is even some evidence to say that it makes you gain extra weight

They have a better balance if I eat/drink/do the same each day add in a take away or a late dinner more exercise or an adrenalin rush or stress or having to face the numpties at work or a bit of snacking or the slighest change basically and they are back to all over the place:rotfl::rotfl:

I have the most fab nurse who wants me to record 3am readings, write it all down what I do and eat which is the norm request from the docs and I do, she sees me increases decreases the insulin and this is how it goes on.

Now she feels she has something else to blame, my new weekly arthritis injections, that I will have side effects from them that they will affect the numbers etc so far they have not which puts a bit of a dampner on her theory:rotfl::rotfl:

It is trial and error and she is very trying:rotfl::rotfl:

Hello flis and welcome to the happy band.

You might find that WeightLossResources is helpful: https://www.weightlossresources.co.uk

I know about PND, I've had that, not nice but it can be overcome.

About pin-cushion - trying to find a vein: a tip. Drink a couple of glasses of water before hand. I was given this tip by our senior GP, a lady of much experience, and it works. Even when they say 'don't eat overnight', plain water is OK and it adds more volume to your blood so the veins are easier to get into.
