Romylou - it sounds like you've had a great holiday. You can undo any harm once you're home, and recovered from the travelling. When I visited the States/Canada for 3 weeks, many moons ago, we stuffed ourselves silly, but walked loads, and came back not having gained a lb. My sister and I were stunned.
Vix - good luck on Tuesday.
Fellpony - I know exactly how you're feeling. I feel I've floundered and bumbled along this whole year. That's partly why I've finally decided to enrol with SW and follow a plan properly. I've discovered that with calorie counting I'm leaving myself too hungry, too often. If I have to choose between a 100 cals on a piece of bread, or 100 cals on a piece of fruit, I'll usually have the bread. It just doesn't help me to then lose weight. I could keep within a calorie allowance each day, but not eat enough fruit & veg, and it could be almost all carbs. At least with this new plan I have to eat lots of fruit & veg at every mealtime. To keep the weight off, I have to change my way of eating, much as Eric was saying earlier. WW new plan propoints looks very similar to the SW principle, altho' they're not abandoning their ordinary points system either. You have so much else on your plate at the moment too, so I think it's admirable that you're determined to keep tackling your weight at the same time.
So, Day 4 hasn't gone too badly. Tomorrow evening I will have properly enrolled, so I will have the advantage of having the books to refer to, and had a bit of more coaching as to the principles. I do feel a bit blind a the moment.... all will be revealed.
Food today:
B - porridge (made with water & sweetener), muller & banana
L - eggs, bacon, mushrooms & beans
D - bolognese wholewheat pasta bake + salad
I've not felt the need to have any snacks, and been more than satisfied by my meals. I'm still getting used to being able to eat the amount of food, and doing so in a sensible way.One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Hello all, I haven't posted on this thread for a while because I was stuck at the same weight for sooooo long, either that or I was bouncing about up a bit, down a bit, on and on for ages. I hurt my wrist so stopped going to the gym, have carried on with the swimming lessons twice a week and am slowly making progress. Anyway, I started again seriously at the end of October, and since then have lost 1.3 kg. I also got some new scales, and am delighted that they're more accurate than the others, although the others cost an awful lot more. There was a little switch in front that you kicked to start it, and Someone in this house kicked it too hard so it all came apart. I went to Argos and got a WeightWatchers set of digital scales, and they weigh to 100g increments rather than 200g which the other ones did.
So, as of this morning I weigh 73.7 kg and that is the lowest I've been for many a long year. 11 stone 8 pounds and a bit. I'd like to get below 11 stones by the end of the year.
I'll let you know what the result is on Wednesday.
Best wishes to all

Welcome back margaretclare and welcome to the newbies
I am v proud of myself today - cycled to the gym, did a big swim and cycled back before 10am!!
Feeling good. Going to be another year older in less than 9 weeks and really want to get below the 10 stone mark before xmas!! that would mean losing about 1 lb a week, which is do-able so long as i stick to the exercise!!
Want_to_be_free I get the same carb craving as you do after exercising, so i make sure i have soemthing before and after - so this morning i had 2 ryvita with laughing cow before heading off and then when i got back i made a big bowl of porridge and drank a pint of water. Takes a while to get through then when you're done you dont feel hungry any more!
As for giving blood, i keept thinking about it then end up getting yet another piercing and have to wait another 6 months!

Margaret - good to hear from you and another great loss: you are an example of patence and perseverance and not giving up with slow slow weight loss. I'm only 4lbs behind you now: I seem to be shifting a bit at the mo, though it does go up and down and seems to be gradually down presently.
I am now regularly seeing the scales show me below the 12 st mark though and now 11st something:j. The best bit is that all my clothes are getting looser which I need as all my skin is red raw at the mo.
Sary - loving your re-oomphed SW approach. I do agree that planning ahead is the key, so you always have the right sort of meal and snacks available. SW is fantastic I think, but you can't go off piste too much because then the whole science of it breaks down and the calories then count really.
I do think eating socially is the downfall for many of us: it is a natural hunman thing to share a meal socially, or even ,as I find, to enjoy sharinga treat with your OH. So I totally get Betty why you get side tracked by take aways, or meals with friends. Well done on your exercise endeavors!
Oh and Sary - standing ovation to your DS:T. I hope he enjoys the challenge of finding new ways to eat. I think it could suit him well, as you can eat so much an at his age, he will be wanting to eat loads.
Big Welcome to all our newbies: please post often for maximum support and focusI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

ok so there GI 87 rather than 100 for glucose, but there still supper high and should be avoided if you are trying to control carb cravings
