Newbie reporting. Been lurking a while, some pretty impressive stories. Im 210 male, im not fussed what the scales say, just how it looks, don't weigh myself often so I won't be joing the table, but I'll hopefully stick around.
I broadly know what to eat, but with being a student and ineffect eating for one, it can make it an effort/difficult at times.
I have a wee bit of an issue with chocolate, and all things its wicked hands touch. I mainly deal with it by total prohibition, I've cut out all junk food and doing alright so far. I hear 30 days and a habit is broken, so see if that works.
My main issue really is lack of exercise, I will be hitting the gym first time I get a chance, it always seems that when I want to sort my life out and nice busy week comes out of no where making it really hard to fit it in.
I can't give blood fullstop, lifetime ban for the lose.
Welcome to both of our new members.
The physical addiction normally takes 2-3 weeks, that's if you get your insulin levels under control (reduce your carbs to about 1/3rd of your diet and only eat low GI carbs).
The physiological addiction I suspect never completely goes away, I was slavering like a mad dog last night over the hot dogs at the fireworks display :rotfl:
Exercise really can help with weight loss and more importantly it will make you healthier but controlling the diet is the main part to focus on0 -
I am obviously a huge WW fan having lost 7 1/2 stone on the plan and would have not have done it any other way even though tried often:rotfl::rotfl: it does make you choose wisely, sure you could have all your points in bad things but what about the rest of the day? You would be starving and that is not what WW is about, the 0 points value on the foods has saved me many a time, just eat those and not be hungry-perfect:D
It is true that many of their WW ready meals, snacks, marketing WW is packed with sugars and I can't have them but it all about changing the way you eat to maximise the points, ditch the sugars, ready meals, cakes, sweets, sugars, fats etc and bring in more fruits and salads and snack a jacks, carrot sticks etc all the healthy stuff:D
i would watch the fruit, lots of sugar in there try for 4 veg portions to 1 fruit portion a day, eat healthy fats you need them and avoid snack a jacks, if i remember correctly those puffed rice cakes have a GI higher than sugar because of the way there processed.0 -
It's all about controlling the insulin but you should really ask Eric about the technical stuff :-)
Aye, if your insulin is fluctuating alot from eating to many quickly absorbed carbs it can cause severe hunger cravings for more carbs.Want_to_be_free wrote: »
For instance, I went to gym this morning , it was 40 minutes urban rebound on the small trampoline and weights etc... It felt good but when I came home, I had the quarter size pizza which was left for me by my house mate - not only that I also a had small-ish bowl of pasta with tomato souce and white cheese. This did not stopped me , I also had two crumpets with jam , and some home made chocolate pudding. Now I am so full and angry with myself. However , this is my bad rack report , I also know that I won't eat anything else today just drink tea or coffee.
Now writting it here makes me feel guilty about todays lunch ( or lunches) I would say... But this is the main reason why I wanted to join to this thread, to control myself , control my eating... I am dreaming of slimmer me and I want it , before it is too late....
This sounds like absolute classic carb craving from a wayward insulin / blood glucose levels
loosing weight is not as hard as people think, it does take some self control but it is not a battle of iron will every hour of every day, people make it harder by following this nonsense low fat high carb diet plan that is still being pushed by many.
If you get your insulin levels under control you all but eliminate hunger if you stick to a sensible calorific intake (1200+ for women 1500+ for men) eat whole foods where you can and reduce your carb intake to 33% of your daily food making sure they are low GI carbs your insulin levels will level out after 2-3 weeks removing most hunger pangs (if you do get any it will be real hunger). Try to get 33% of your calories from healthy fats and oils such as rapeseed oil, seeds and nuts.
You can also do a lot to help stop muscle loss, ironically you need to eat to loose weight, you need to keep your metabolism fired up to stop it going into starvation mode, so not dropping your cals to low and if you can eat every 3-4 hours. The best two things you can do is to make sure you have some lean protein with every meal (aim for 33% of your diet to be protein) and to do 3 resistance type 30 min exercise sessions a week such as yoga, pilates, resistance bands, light weights etc
I am on week 43 now and I probably have true hunger once a fortnight now and when I do get it I have a granola (low GI) bar. I did this last night and after and hour my glucose levels where 4.9 which is near perfect. More importantly after 43 weeks and a pretty substantial weight loss I have lost zero % lean muscle mass which is crucial, and there's nothing special about me, my will power is just as weak as every other over weight person, I have tried every one of the fad diets but once I had worked out that getting insulin levels under control was the Key it became very natural and hardly a struggle.
Oh and the nasty bit for most people, you need to avoid caffeine it screws your blood sugar levels up ..0 -
I dont know if body weight calculators are as accurate as some people make them out to be: "the ideal weight" who decides what that is? Ok maybe as a guideline but its more important for you to feel comfortable with your own size and shape, even if slightly under or over that shown on the charts. Take care and keep posting :-)
Body composition scales can be ok, the ones with handgrips as well as feet pads tend to be the most accurate, my omron ones where about 3.5% out over the bodpod which is excellent for a £35 set of scales but more importantly they do read pretty consistently (if you follow the rules) so you will get reasonably accurate changes in % of body fat which is what you are after.
As puds points out, No1 thing is to be happy in your own skin, if your not happy change yourself until you are (as long as its healthy)
Then forget how much you weight and defiantly bin BMI they are irrelevant if your after being healthy or looking better then the only thing that matters is your % of body fat.0 -
Eric I love your posts - they're always very inspirational :j0

Hi everyone
Well im officially on the last day of my hols in Florida today. It has cooled down a bit this week, so not as much sunbathing done as last week.:)
Although I managed to lose 1lb while ive been here (God knows how I managed that??!) I have been a bit naughty this week and consumed too many Margarita's to mention and a cheeky Chocolate Fudge Brownie cake!!:o
I am not looking forward to getting on the3 scales this week, as I know that with the long haul flight coming up, I do tend to retain a LOT of fluid in my joints and it takes about a week to drain.
Anyway, Im not going to worry about that too much, and when I get home, the post holiday, pre xmas healthy eating plan will begin!!!:A
I love keeping up with you all, this thread is great for me and you are all truly inspiring.
Love romylou xx0 -
