not really, your bod needs fuel to work, (note this is massively over simplified) its first choice is glycogen stored in your muscles from all those lovely carbs you eat, after that's gone it turns to fat burning (which is not as efficient, i seam to remember its 3 oxygen for fat to 1 oxygen for glycogen), any activity after the glycogen is gone will result in fat burning, the longer you work and / or the higher the intensity the more stored energy you will use

the main zones are aerobic and anaerobic in anerobic exercise lactic acid starts to build up so can not be sustained for long periods, for you the optimum HR for a mix of cardio and fat burning is around 135-140 mark, however the harder and longer you go the more energy your will use.

my max is 177 and i trained for 40 mins this morning in the 145-155 range with out much problem, i could have pushed a lot harder but I am still "breaking in" my heart after the cardioversion

The only way i will be able to work at 135-140 is to go really slow on the treadmll. That would be about (as a rough guestimate) level 4-5? Then i feel like im not doing anything!! I cant use any other peice of gym equipment else my heart rate is then impossible to get down that far unless i stopped. I remember trying it before.

My general fittness has improved, yesterday i was running and my friends were saying how i would stop soon but i didnt! I could have run further too - it was one of those "i can feel my hard work paying off" moments!

Its an STS for me as well this week.

Fitness last night was tough, we did some boxing! I was timid with it at first, then remembered everyone that had annoyed me this week and just went for it! My arms are paying the price today.

I think my attitude of "oh I can just make little changes" isnt going to work with losing a sizeable amount. So this week the bread and sandwiches I have on lunch have all been banished. As has the drinking at home. Think I'm going to have to be tough on myself for a while, though I'm off to Amsterdam on Sunday so thats going to make it hard!

Enjoy amsterdam!! Really want to go there. Don't have any dodgy cakes, apparently it makes you really paranoid :p

Vix - good luck with the trolley dolly interview - make sure it is really want you want if you get through.

I dont know what i want BB!!!!!! I really wish i did but its the story of my life. I just tend to go with the flow....see what happens. Will be worth the experience im sure!

Well done on the losses guys, some cracking results.

Hello Marion :waves how could we forget you? Brilliant results, and I agree, sometimes taking a measured step back can definitely be a good thing. I wish I could say the same thing. I was asking after you a few weeks back actually, you used to mention soaking rice in milk overnight for your breakfast. My sister had something sounding very similar in Tunisia this year and loved it, and I was asking if anyone knew how to make it. Can you enlighten me?

I'm certainly considering attacking my weight the Slimming World way again. I did it years ago, and my sister an I supported one another whilst doing it. I can't afford to go to a class, but I definitely feel it would help me at the moment. My appetite has grown as the year has gone on, and I know SW will enable me to eat to feel fuller.

Fellpony - I have the Belvita biscuits on days where I have to get out of the house very early, or need to eat on the go. I struggle to eat anything before 10am, no matter what time I get up, but will then get very hungry. I find they take a bit longer to eat than your average biscuit, and they definitely don't seem to make me have the shakes. At only 200 cals per packet, I think you could have a packet of those, and a piece of fruit and they'd make a healthy enough breakfast. I like that they're low GI. My favourites are the plain ones, because they're like a chunky malted milk cookie. I'm currently eating a very low calorie porridge for breakfast, which takes a minute to do in the microwave. I use approx. 45g porridge oats, 2 sweetener pips, enough boiled water to cover the oats, but not make them swim, a splash of milk, and a quick wizz in the microwave they're done. Leave to stand for 1 minute, and you have a nice, thick creamy prorridge. It's so easy, I've even got my 2 youngest boys making it themselves.

Fred, I'm sorry to report a 2lb gain this week. Pah, I'm useless at this sometimes.

Alliwant - I hope you're bearing up OK. Thinking of you and your family right now. Big hugs xxx

Thanks for all the welcome backs everyone:D!

I havn't done the rice soaked in milk thing - can't really say it sounds too nice! What I have done is porridge oats or oatmeal (raw) soaked in fruit yogurt over night then mixed with chopped fruit in the morning. The oats absorbes the moisture of yogurt and swells up and tastes lovely.

I also do my Marions Breakfast Rice - I cook some pudding rice in water till the water is all absorbed, then mix the hot rice with yogurt and berries or chopped fruit - nice and filling and warming on a cold morning!(and entirely syn free on SW)
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!

1.5 lb on please Fred which I'm really pleased with after a week on holiday in Greece -- previous holidays have resulted in pounds piling on.

It was a great holiday, visiting all the major ancient sites. But I felt like an ancient site by the time we came back as it was quite exhausting!

 hello Marion! Great to hear from you again.

Vix - I can't wait to go on an EJ flight and see you do the safety announcements. When will the assessment be?

Granny: I loved crete when i went, didnt like where we were the mountain areas were lovely. Im hoping that when i get to Greece it will be better and not a dissapointment. I would love to see that architecture! I know the world has a lot to offer but when people go travelling they always seem to overlook Europe. Seems a bit of a shame. Glad you had a good holiday!

My assessment is on Tuesday. Big Eeeeks!! Kinda nervous, mainly about driving to gatwick on my own!

God i love my iphone already. To be sitting at lunch looking at a pic of (the hot) Gino decampo about to jump from a plane is just something else. Then to take pics which then get uploaded to my twitter and facebook...just amazing. I have a diet fitness thing on there and all sorts, such fun times!

Im starting to organise the wedding fair for my debenhams store tomorrow. Pooing myself....dunno where to begin!

    Love
    Marion

Hi Marion, welcome back - you're not on the chart any more so if you want to pm me your total loss I'll make sure the chart is right for next week - I've put on your SW losses for now.

are we using this week or using last week as the opening weigh in for
"North v South - revenge of the beauties" ?

Last week was the opening week for the challenge - I've calculated everyone's weight from the weight they first gave me less the loss since then.
Sorry I'm not posting so much - I'm ok but just not so well and having always the extra energy. But reading everyday
Hope things improve soon for you BB.

Vix - good luck for the wedding fair.

I do this every week - post my weight late. It's a STD Fred. No shocker. I'm using my fitness pal on my phone, looks nifty. Anyone use it?
