  • This has been a great thread.

I am not very savvy when it comes to this sort of thing and usually just do straight forward upgrade, keeping tarrif but getting new phone etc with Carphonewarehouse or over the phone with tmobile! And I am not good at bartering!

However, need to become more money consious in these times!

I have been due an upgrade for at least a year, possibly 2 (currently still have nokia n73) and so was wondering if this was a good bartering tool???? My phone is older than my oldest son lol

I am with Tmobile - the best deals seem to be for new tmobile customers - can I ask for my PAK and then re-join t-mobile???? Told you that I am new to all this!

I have been with Tmobile since they were 1-2-1 (since about 1997)

Anyone got any tips for me??????

No, you have to ask for your PAC, join another network (PAYG) then ask that network for your PAC, then rejoin T-Mobile.

You may well find T-Mobile will offer you similar (if not better) deals than new customer to keep your business.

Ps. Very silly staying on a contract that has reached it's minimum term, it will have been inflated to subsidize your phone, so you've pretty much been paying for it over and over.
  • Thank you so much for the quick reply!

I am off now to request my pac and fingers crossed, I will be a new HTC owner soon!
  • OK I phoned Tmobile, asked for my PAC and have been offered -

    Free HTC Desire Z
£225 credit a month for all calls inc international and text messaging etc
    unlimited internet (fair usage applies)
    for £30 a month, 24 month contract

To me this sounds too good to be true but I am bit green with all this malarky - Is it?
  • Hi Tamster..

When you say £225 per month credit, is that made up of texts and talk time? If so, what is the breakdown? Then, based on the breakdown, how does that fit with what you are using.. It's great to have 500free mins and a gazillion texts a month but if you only use a fraction of that then you could be paying over the odds.

I'm not advocating Dial-a-phone by any stretch of the imagination, but I have been using it extensively to compare packages and phones.. Might be worth you having a look and seeing how your deal compares with what they are offering new customers. If you find that there is a deal that better suits your needs it gives you something to go back to them with. It also helps to see what other networks are offering so that you know when you've got a good deal and when you can push a bit more.

I suppose the other question is.. Is the Desire Z what you are after?? have you done much research on the phone?

From looking at the details on the phone it is a slider style rather than a touchscreen..

  • thanks that is useful - I wont rush into anything & will have a look on dial-a-phone & a few others.

The credit includes text & phone at following
calls (landline & mobile) 20p min
    08 etc numbers 40p min
    texts 10p min
    pic text 20p
not sure about cost of retrieving voicemail etc or international calls.

I was paying £25pm and don't use my phone a great deal, (but having been lurking on here, I will be making more of an effort to use my mobile before landline in the evenings.) However, £30 is more than I really want to pay tbh.

The fact that they have offered me £ credit rather than minutes makes it even more difficult for a novice barterer like me to make comparisons (but I suppose they know this!)

right off to do my research... (again)
  • Tamster..

Just had a look and Tmobile are offering to new customers for the Desire Z on a 24month contract:

    FREE Desire Z
    900 Mins
    500 Texts
    Data bundle
    All for £25.53 pm

    OR

    FREE Desire Z
    600 Mins
    500 Texts
    Data bundle
£75 cash back (automatically paid 28days after your 'peace of mind' period)
All for £25.53 pm (with the cash back makes an effective monthly of £22.41)
Looks like they are giving you £75 for the reduction in minutes!

Not sure how they compare with what they have offered you. Orange are offering similar deals.

  • Thanks again Mark,

I didnt realise the desire z wasnt touch screen - i thought the keyboard was in addition to the touch screen, so I have now gone back to looking at straight forward Desire (non hd),

and yes there are some good looking tarifs for £20-£25.

So will be phoning back up for my PAC, mentioning £30 too much to pay & better deals elsewhere. And see what else they have to offer.
  • Hi Tamster..

My error...it IS a touchscreen, but also has a fold out keyboard... have a look at the reviews on youTube..

    Sorry if I mislead you...
