HTC Desire HD Deals

Unfortunately, although they have said it, it doesn't look like it's something that will happening soon.
Still, custom ROM's away

Got a retention deal through 3 of:
-Free phone
-2000 minutes
-5000 texts
-5000 3to3 minutes
-Unlimited intertnet
For £23 a month (24 months). I did have to buy out my existing contract for £80. But thought this was worth it for the deal.
That is a great deal! how many months did you have left of your existing contract? I still have quite a while but I can upgrade from 1st August but I am far too impatient.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Hi all
This is one of only a few postings i've made on MSE and I'm hoping you all might be able to help.
I am just at 2 months to the end of my 24mth contract with o2 having been with them for 7 years. Currently paying £20pm and I am looking for a change of phone.
I am looking at the HTC Desire and the deals I have seen are as follows (through Dialaphone):
Orange: Dolphin 25 - £25.43pm with 10months FREE making £14.90 effective monthly (24mnths)
Phone - FREE
Mins - 300
Texts - Unlimited
Data - 500mb
Vodaphone: Your Plan 25 - £25.00pm with £120 cash-back making £20.00 effective monthly (24mnths)
Phone - FREE
Mins - 300
Texts - Unlimited
Data - 500mb
There are similar deals with T mobile.
If I want to go for the HD Desire, Orange bumps to £21.28, Vodaphone to £25 effectively
Called o2 today and spoke to upgrades, they pretty much wouldn't entertain any conversation about what they might offer as the earliest I can upgrade with them is end of March. They said to call back then. I mentioned the deals I had seen and made all the noises about cancelling but she was not bothered.. should I call back and ask to speak to cancellations?
SO... my questions are these:
1. Are the above offers pretty much standard and am I likely to be able to get them in a month or so's time when I am at the end of my contract?
2. If the answer to the above is NO, is it worth spending the £40 to buy out the end of my contract with o2 and snap up one of the deals above before they disappear .
3. Does anyone have any experiences of Orange and Vodaphone and are they much of a muchness or should I steer clear of the 'locked' Orange set-up.
4. Is it worth paying the extra for the HD. (I've used my dads Desire and its fantastic so wonder whether the extra outlay is justified).
Any help and guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Mark
I spoke to O2 too earlier. I'm on contract, but sim only, and I too am after a Desire / Desire HD. Firstly, O2 don't do the Desire HD, just the normal Desire. Secondly, they wouldn't match any other deal I'd found - they claim they can't because of anti-competitiveness laws. (?) Everyone gets the same deal with O2. I'm leaving them...
With regards to Desire / Desire HD, I think I'm leaning towards the Desire. For the extra cost, the HD doesn't justify itself to me. As I understand it, the screen is "better", though the actual pixel size is the same. The HD has a slightly more modern processor (though it's the same speed), but this is more due to the version of Android that the phone has installed. I believe if you upgrade the Android version on the normal Desire (though this will void your warranty) you will effectively have the HD, minus the HD screen. (There may be a bit more to it than this, but this is what I understood). The HD is also slightly too big for comfortable pocket size, though it also has a better camera. (However, this is a phone camera, so it doesn't really bother me).

If it helps anyone (eg the above posters enquiring about HD prices and offers) if anything they get better with time.
In late December when 3 stopped me from sending texts (apparently the handset was the problem. Again.) I was looking through HD offers and Desire offers. They seemed to work out to around £35+ a month for the HD even on redemption offers with e2save/phones 4u and £25+ a month on the Desire. (I should add here I need internet access which does bump the prices I was looking at)
Fast forward to now and my contract has ended -three wouldn't let me cancel any earlier then 10 days before it actually ends. I have had a look at the offers going around for both the HD and Desire again.
Seems the HD can be found via redemptions. for £25 a month and the Desire for £20 a month via redemptions.
I'm holding out for the next few months when newer and better handsets come out, the Iphone5 should really mess with prices I hope and am looking to match £15 a month, free handset and full internet access of 1gb or more with anyone but not 3.
I'd hold out of I were you, can't see them making prices any higher then what they already are and tbh don't really think much of the various offers right now, saw way better at Christmas in terms of price and what you get service wise for it.0 -

Just wait till the new Desire S is out matching the HD in April.0 -

Thanks... didn't realise there was a new one coming out. Do you think then that all the deals running on the Desire are in order to clear the stocks ready for the 'S' ?
If this is the case, might I face a situation where the Desire becomes unavailable as the providers will only be pushing the 'S'. I know Apple did this when they moved to the 3Gs.. once that had launched the providers just wouldn't supply the prior model. If this is the case the tariffs will increase to reflect the newer model.

'Link removed' (won't let me post with it in!!)
Thanks for the info and the link...interesting article..
I think the larger size is one of the main things that would sway me away from the HD. I want something that fits well in my pocket so the smaller and lighter the better really. Also, like you, the additional cost doesn't seem to outweigh the benefit for me at the moment.
I think the article has steered me more in the direction of the standard Desire, so thanks...helped me clear my thoughts on that.0 -

Hi, did you have to pay anything for the phone?
I have eventually accepted an upgrade from 3 (contract ending 1 March so no buy out) as follows:
HTC Desire
2000 anytime landline calls
2000 anytime mobile calls
5000 texts
5000 3 to 3
Unrestricted internet
£10 international calls
I don't need international calls but there would be no reduction - it was part of the deal. £25 for 2 years + £8.30 admin which he wouldn't budge on. I could have had a refurbished HTC Desire for £23 but chose not to.
Expecting phone today.
Must stop looking at what deals other people get. I think this is an ok deal to be fair.0
