HTC Desire HD Deals

I ordered a HTC Desire HD direct from T-Mobile tonight. Chatting to the sales person they offered me 600 min 500 texts, free booster and 3GB of data for £30.00 pm and a free phone (24 month). Now on the whole this seems to be a good deal to me.

Sounds a good deal. Are you a new customer?

No I have been with T-Mobile for many years. It is however a new line I am getting.
  • Free phone, £25 a month, 600mins 500texts, "unlimited" data:

  • First post here so go easy on me! A few questions:

Just been browsing mobiles.co.uk and they have the Desire HD on Orange Dolphin 25, with 300 mins, unlimited texts and 500MB data, for £25 a month plus £40 up front. What's the catch (apart from the insurance and warranty deals which you need to remember to opt out of)?

Secondly, assuming there's nothing wrong with the deal, is it even worth my calling my existing provider (T-mobile) to see if they can match it? I'm a long-term customer, recently finished my contract, always had low-level cheap contracts so not a valuable customer, now I just want something with the Desire HD and internet, I only make about 200 mins of calls a month. Should I just ask for my PAC?

Finally, I've never changed provider before. What is the correct order to do things so that you don't get ripped off/left without a phone? Am I correct in thinking it's...
    1. Get PAC
    2. Order new phone and sign new contract
    3. Give PAC to new provider only when the phone arrives

    ?

    Thanks in advance...

IMO you should always contact your current provider. I've just done this this week.
Went through to 'Thinking of leaving'. they wouldn't give me the deal I wanted (which was my current contract but cheaper) - 500 mins 500 txt & unlimited data for £25 a month and a free HTC Desire HD. So asked for my PAC code.
Got that and got a call from 'head office'

Now have HTC Desire HD free, 600 mins, unlimited text and data £17.50 a month!!!! Dead chuffed :j:j

I too am very tempted by these hd deals. Im interested in the T mobile £25 one. If I added the £5 data bundle, does that mean i can use my phone for tethering? confused.

Crikey - that's cheap. In fact...that doesn't even cover the retail cost of the phone...
  • So just to confirm, it's always worth getting the PAC from your current provider, then giving it a couple of days before actually handing over any money for a new contract with a new provider, to see if they'll call you back and try to tempt you to stay?

Yeah i know. He did tell me exactly which point that Vodafone would start making money out of it and it was somthing like a week bfore the contract runs out (24months) I pointed out that having been with them for about 10 years they've more than made their money out of me!

For every upgrade this is what I do

    - Find the deal first that I want AND what I'd be willing to accept from my current provider.
-THEN phone provider and go straight through to 'thinking of leaving' never upgrades.
-Ask for your PAC code. They will then ask why you want to leave. Explain that you've seen a good deal somewhere else and what it is.
    - They should try and match it or better it.
    - If they don't, don't worry, still ask for your PAC code and say thanks. Just because you've asked for your PAC code, doesn't end your contract.
    - You should within a day or two receive a call from your current provider and these are the guys who have the power to get you the deal you want.

I can only speak from my experiences but this has always worked for me. I've never gone at it with an attitude or think that it's my right to have a discount etc because others may have. It aint. I've always been honest with them and never asked for more than I need just for the sake of getting more out of them.
I wanted to stay with my provider and I told them that. I said that it was for financial reasons only that I wanted to move which was true. They came through for me and loads better than I could have hoped for:T
  • You should ring up your provider when there are 30 days left on your contract and see what offers they have. If they have nothing available that you want then you request your PAC code. This gives you the full 30 days to either find a better deal somewhere else or keep returning to your current provider to see if they are willing to improve their offer. When going back to your provider always ask for the Retentions ("if you are thinking of leaving us press ##") team, don't speak to the frontline staff.
If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button
