Unfortunately your experience is probably quite a common one across all the networks. I was missold a contract through Orange disconnections last time. They sold me a contract with unlimited internet with no fair use policy and when I got my first bill it turned out to be Off Peak internet. This was a serious issue for me because I use internet all the time and my bill would have been huge. To their credit they sorted it out for me.

It's always best to double and triple check with them all the details when on the phone, and if possible, to record the conversation. Make sure you double check the following details:

    • The exact model of the phone they are offering
    • The price of the handset (is it definitely free)
    • The number of months in the contract
    • The number of minutes (are they all the time and Xnet)
    • The number of texts. If "unlimited" what is the actual max amount (eg. 3000)
    • Data:
      • What is the data usage?
      • Is it all the time or off peak?
      • What is the fair usage policy?
      • Is the fair use policy a "hard cap" (i.e. do I have to pay if I go over this?) or a soft threshold (i.e. if I go over every know and again it won't matter too much, but they might slow you down or write to you)
    • What type of data use is included in the above? Is it for all web browsing, email etc? Or is it only email? Some phone tariffs (especially Blackberrys) may only be email or perhaps even exclude email?
    • Are any sites or services free (i.e. not part of the data bundle). Sometimes networks will include their portal free or Facebook or other sites?
    • How many landline minutes are included. If "unlimited" what's the actual amount?
    • Is dialing voicemail included in the minutes?
    • What number types are included? Is it 01,02,03 and mobiles? Or does it include 0845/0870 and/or 0800 numbers?
    • How many photo messages are included?
    • Are any roaming services included when using the phone abroad? For example text messages, voice calls, data?

I know that's quite a lot, but if you want to be sure then it's best to ask. And ask them to repeat it back to you so you can be sure.

If anyone thinks of other questions that should be asked then pipe in!

  • update is they are now honouring the £23 deal but have no record of the £18 deal, so i have accepted the current offer but asked them to pull the recordings of the other conversation and i expect a call in a couple of days apologising.
and they have set the deal up so if i call into a shop and they have stock i can get the same deal over the counter

That is a fantastic deal. It deserves a whole new thread!! I think that's the best I've seen by far. What network?

It's with Vodafone - I've been with them for about 10 years so I think I've been rewarded for my loyalty with this deal. Itching to get my hands on it but waiting for the call to tell me it's in the store for collection. Other half is well jealous as he's on a PAYG and just gets my handme downs :rotfl:
  • Minky how did they confirm this? email text or ?
as you can see they are back peddling fast on me

can you confirm how they confirmed the deal and did you get a phone ordered?

    thanks
  • Got mine with 5000 texts, 1gb internet and 500 minutes on 3 24 month £35 a month. Could have got cheaper but wanted it right now!
  • I've posted this on another thread (the Orange retentions one) but I wanted to come back here and let you know what they're offering me on Orange. They're out of stock, so when they're back in I am going to try and get a better deal from them as I'm not quite satisfied.

They have offered me the following deals with the HTC Desure HD for free:

    Racoon 25, 24mth contract
    800mins
    unlimited landline calls
    300 texts
    500Mb Data
    £20/mth

    Panther 35, 24mth contract
    600mins
    Unlimited Texts
    750Mb Data
    £25/mth

    Dolphin 35, 24mth contract
    800 mins
    unlimited texts
    500Mb data
    £22.50/mth

if they offered me the phone free, on an 18mth (or 24mth if that's all they can do) for 600 mins, 300-unlimited texts and 1Gb data for £20 per month then I'd definitely go for it.

Last time they gave me a free HTC Touch HD, 750mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data (with no fair usage policy) for £20 per month.

Beware of Orange!! From my experience they do not care.
Last august I rung and spoke to their retentions manager and he only offered standard tariff deals saying it’s the best he could do even though I’m on the top loyalty band. He said I wouldn’t find a cheaper and better deal with orange however I told him it’s the standard tariff and caught him out.
Anyways a nice man from retentions again offered me:
    2200xnet mins,
    Unlimited texts
    Unlimited internet
    15 picture messages
    And orange maps
For £24.47 and any phone I wanted. It was a really good deal. All I had to do is find the phone I wanted. I wanted a phone I could share deal on etc and had java. There was none at the time. I was advised the offer would be kept for me till I found a phone I wanted. Every few months however I’d ring and speak to the nice man that offered this deal to make sure I could still have it, to which I was told yes, it’s in your notes, whenever you find the phone you want ring us and we’ll sort it out. I was told I didn’t have to speak to them even as it’s in the notes and anyone in the department would offer it me.
Anyway I kept checking till a few months ago when the HTC desire HD was rumoured to come out. I rung orange checked my deal and said once it’s out I’ll renew and they said that’s fine, can see deal. They said they wasn’t sure they was going to get the phone or not though. 2-3 months ago I rung to enquire about the htc desire HD’s release and was told October November this year.
Today I found it’s released but when I rung to renew, I was told by another rentention's man (very bad service) that I couldn’t be offered that deal. He said yes I would find customers on here with better deals but they are better valued customers who orange make more off. My bill is high yet it’s not what orange can make money off. Also because I make use of their magic numbers now I use a lot of minutes and they say I cost them a lot.
After 6 and a half years loyalty and for not being in contract for nearly 3 years, paying £35 a month for 500 mins, a tariff price now where you can get much more mins, they did not care. They said they couldn’t honour the offer as it’s been a year.
I told them I’ve been checking every couple of months and was told its fine, but they didn’t care no more. I think to them I was even though one the top loyalty band was costing them. Offer was withdrawn. Was treated badly I believe, didn’t care if I left orange. I think id served my purpose, and now they had finished with me. No loyalty on their end I see.

I in the end spoke to the gentleman who offered me the deal, another rude manager put him on. I think he’d been told to come over. In any case with the new t-mobile orange merger they said what they can offer has changed and they couldn’t offer me anything. Deal withdrawn. I believe competition has been stifled.

To all those that have been offered deals with orange, and all those who may think of going on orange, from my experience all I can say is beware. I have for many years been loyal to orange. Not anymore. There are better deals. Even Tesco offer £30 unlimited texts, internet, and mins. I could then just buy the phone.
  • Ordered on 28/10/10 through e2save via Quidco

    Got the T Mobile deal

    600 mins
    500 txts
    unlimited web
    £25 p/m
    phone cost £29.99

Have just seen the poster in this thread who got the same with free phone and now on e2save it's free phone.

Any change of getting my £29.99 back do you think or just hard luck that it was free phone and the it was £29.99 and now it's free again?

    Thanks,

    Nicola
