By the end of Reception, a child should be able to count to 20.

We lived 5 mins from primary school with no roads to cross and my mum could see the gate from one of the bedroom windows to check whether I'd arrived. My mum said she would pick me up and I would run ahead and be waiting on the doorstep for her when she got home so not much point in her picking me up or dropping me off.

But doesn't High School start at Year Nine? Unless you had a particularly unsuitable route I would think it a bit weird for a 13 year old to not be allowed to go to school on their own.

Susan, high school starts at year 7...roughly 11 years old:)

At what age should a child be able to count up to 10 and beyond?

DD1 is 3 end of March and can count to 10, sometimes 20 but 11 - 20 are new this week to her.

I've just asked her to count some things in a bowl and should could kind of do it.

As she's my Eldest I really don't know what I should expect of her. Any Ideas?

I think counting to 20 is a Reception-age sort of thing, not necessarily something I'd expect a 3-year-old to be able to do :)

Goodnight lovely ladies, I am off to bed. Don't talk too much while I'm asleep.

Any tips on getting a 4 week old to love her moses basket? We manage 2 hour stints (max) occasionally but she won't settle consistently anywhere unless being held/in a sling. She has a dummy which is great when she keeps it in, is bf, and cries a lot. Have bought her some infacol today so will start on that.

Oh and is there a recommended weight for sleeping bags, I think she may be cold at night so might try her in one of the many I have.

Got to go and pick up big girl soon so may not reply immediately but will read later.

    Thanks muchly.

My 7 wk old slept in her moses basket for her nap today for about an hour or so and that is a result. She just doesn't settle in there and wakes up as soon as we put her down. Today I laid her on her sleeping bag and she slept?
She sleeps much better in her pram or her crib. She was quite an unsettled baby but each week she is getting better and better, she is starting to nap for longer and longer.

Smartie - enjoy your night out. I left E for the 1st time on Sunday while I went xmas shopping for the afternoon - I was there and back in no time lol :o.

To be honest CAFC I go out because it helps pass the day. I find that the day really drags if I'm in all day, so I try to plan at least one thing in to give a bit of a focus. Often it's just going out for a coffee, but I find it helps to have a plan!

    I'm the same

Monday is shopping day, Tuesday tots group, wednesday is stay in day but I usually at least take a little walk to the shops, Thursday tots group and friday is friend visiting day, either she comes here or we go there...

Plus I have the school run to do each day too...I don't think i could sit in all day everyday I would go crazy...more crazy than I am already I might add;)

When I had pnd after ds2 I refused to take medication and managed to improve the condition by going out to every tots grp in the area, plus baby swim and a library storytime session! I still suffered with the pnd for far, far too long and in hindsight I should have taken medication to help overcome it quicker...it nearly cost me my marriage! Anyway I have learnt my lesson this time and am doing a combination which is working fantastically:D

  • nenero we have at least 1 teacher on here who should be able to give you more of a clue. My almost 2 year old knew she had taken three chocolates out of the packet this evening, but that may have been a lucky guess. She likes numbers but doesn't know what order the go in yet. It is a start though :)
