for anyone to proof read/helpful criticism/rip off the letter i plan to send:
Dear Sir,
I write to claim tax relief on the cost of repairing, cleaning and replacing my work uniform. It is a recognisable uniform that shows that I am a veterinary nurse. My employer requires me to wear it at all times while working. Initial outlay for the uniform is by my employer, however I incur expenditure for laundering, adjustment and repair of the uniform. I wish to please claim the flat rate deduction for nurses at £100 per year plus £12 per year for my work shoes and £6 per year for stockings/socks/tights, as a prescribed style and colour is required (e.g. flat, black, closed toe shoes).
My uniform requires a daily hot wash to prevent spread of hospital diseases such as MRSA.
From date to date employer's name and address
Expenses; all but initial purchase of uniform.
Industry; private veterinary small animal general practice
Job title; Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons enrolled student Veterinary Nurse
Laundry services at work are for hospital patient use only, uniform is not permitted to be washed on hospital premises
No payment or vouchers are provided by my employer towards my laundry costs.
Yours faithfully,:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!0 -
Hi there, newbie here so please excuse me if this is posted in the wrong thread. I have sent of a claim in regards to the uniform, but a colleague raised a valuable point. We are required to charge various devices at home in order to use them for our job. Drill, meter and a mobile PDA. Can this be claimed back as we have to charge them at home or we would be unable to carry out our work. Thanks in advance for any advice.0

Just thought I'd let people know that we all just phoned our tax office with the relevant details and we all received our allowances and a new tax code no probs. We have only had to wear a uniform for a year so our rebates were quite small in comparison to some on the forum but any bit helps at the moment.
Many thanks for the info which spurred us on to do this!!!0 -
Hi - I worked a Waitrose for 5 years on the deli, so had hat, overals, apron plus normal uniform under this - however I left this job 3 years ago am I still able for a rebate?
If so what catagorie do I fall into and how much am I eligable to claim for??
Am I able to claim for all 5 years - or only the last three years I was there?
Thanks!0 -
You can claim back to 05-06 ...... until the year you left. Likely to be £60 relief for each year - which translates to £12 in actual cash.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

under banks and building societies it only lists "uniformed doormen and messengers"
I am a non-regulated adviser who wears a supplied uniform with a logo how much relief can I claim?0 -
If you're responsible for the maintenance / laundering ....... then the default is £60.
Which is the amount of relief ...... so translates to £60 x 20% = £12 less tax.
Or £24 if you're in the 40% bracket ...... with all the bonuses! If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I have worked there since the 6/4/2010.
So I can claim for last tax year and this year and have it built into my pay packet?
40% tax bracket... lol I wish. Closer to being a non-taxpayer0 -
Yes. You can claim for 10-11 and 11-12 ..... it will then tend to stay in your Coding until you change jobs / rescind it.
Unless you ask specifically for a refund for the closed year (10-11) they will now tend to bundle both that year and 11-12 into this year's Coding. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
