How would your Tax code change if for instance you were allowed to claim the £60 x 20% = £12 and your Tax code was 747L (I’m curious to know what a Tax code would change to?)
Plus My daughter said she claims her allowance through work but she washes her own clothes however her Tax code is 747L0 -
Just got my tax refund of £107 for tax year 2010/11 and adjustment on my tax code to 757. Didn't get anything for previous five years, even though I mentioned I had worked at my present job since Nov 2005 but will write again to see if I am due further rebate. Watch this space........
A BIG THANK YOU to MSE!:j0 -

£7475 + £60 = £7535. So the tax Code goes to 753LIf you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

I suspect you did. The refund of £107 (if that is what it is all for?) will be for all 5 years + this current year. If you look at the P2 (Coding Notice) you should have had - it should show the allowances added. And I think you will find they've pushed all of it into 11-12.
The normal refund for a single year is £12 (£60relief) to £20 (£100 relief). If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Your Code number has been increased by £400 - which means you pay £80 less tax in the year. So you would perhaps notice it as a reduction of tax in the month the Code was implemented - rather than a 'refund'?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

Had a feeling this is what they may have done - hopefully they don't forget to re-adjust in April. Would have been much easier if they had adjusted to take account of the £12 a year and given me a refund.0

Can anyone explain a bit easier what this means, I received the following letter from HM Revenue & Customs today.
Thank you for your letter.
I can allow the following amounts for laundry expenses:
Tax year up to and including 2007 - 2008 £105
Tax year after 2008 - 2009 £140
An adjustment has been made in your 2011 - 2012 tax code to backdate the amounts and include as an allowance. A refund will be given via your salary when the new code is operated.
.......... I also received another letter stating
Your new tax code for year 6 April 2011 to 5 April 2012 is 839L, which replaces 747L.
How will I receive a refund?0
