In the way you've posted.A refund will be given via your salary when the new code is operated.
....... don't think they could have made it much clearer?
They've added £920 worth of allowances to your current code. That's worth £184 if you pay tax at 20% or £368 if at 40%.
As we're 75% of the way through the tax year - you should (the 20% figure) pay £138 less tax this month if the employer processes the Code in time. And the rest (£46) over the following 3 months. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Hi purple lotus - I'm a registered Vet nurse and was given the £60 rate of allowance when I claimed. They backdated it six years and I was sent a cheque for £87 . My tax code also changed and I had an extra £10 in my wage packet last month :T - hoping this will continue but not sure if it was a one off.
That's annoying they don't recognise us as "real" nurses, but I'll try with the larger amount anyway. Seems a bit off as care home staff fall into the nurse catagory and yet they don't work in nearly as much of a hospital environment as we do.
Good to see another VN here, although I've still got a year to go before I'm an RVN like you!:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!0 -
Hi,
I sent off a letter to claim for this money at the start of November and have heard nothing, should I contact them again or just wait a little longer?!0 -
I would wait until the New Year. I'm afraid it won't be high on the priority list. A couple of months was normally the best to expect - albeit they do appear to have speeded up a little lately. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

Hi
Have just read all the info on this claim back and really feel my hubby should be entitled to it but can anyone advise as I cant find his job on the list....he is a dustman!
He works for Local Government & has to wear a logo'd uniform that they provide for him. Obviously doing this type of job I have to wash his uniform everyday. The council do not provide laundry facilities or give any payments towards this and he wouldnt possibly even want to wear the uniform outside of work.
Does anyone think he would be entitled? Have read lots of posts on here but really am unsure what to write to HMRC. He has worked there for approx 8 years.
Hope someone can help me please x0 -
hi all
im new to the forum but been a long term subscriber to the weekly email and im so glad had joined that as ill explain !
about 2 months ago i saw a part about claiming back for uniform expenses and must admit ive know about this for some years but did not have a clue how to go about it !.
well until reading the email regarding it .
i followed the advice on how to write the letter and were to send and in my case was in Liverpool.
i put i wanted a cheque but as i found out later if its over £350 they want give you a cheque it will be a new tax code and when i rang them and asked they told me yes your claim had just been processed
and i got a massive £753 !!!! thankyou very nicely hmrc!
this was a claim for the last 6 years and my field of work is in security sector and it is one of the highest jobs covered hence the larger payout !
it would of been nice to have been given the cheque but each month i get paid i just pay less tax so its the same i suppose .
anyway thanks money saving experts !!!0 -
i would call them ! it says up to 5 weeks and thats what i did after 6 weeks
so why not its your money and you work dam hard for it FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT and het it back0 -
After 3 letters backwards and forwards, I've just had ANOTHER letter asking me MORE questions! I'm beginning to think of giving up, but another part of me says "You've gone this far, make them pay!"
What they are asking for now is:
"It is unclear whether or not your uniform bears the company logo. Please ask your company to confirm this fact and forward the appropriate paperwork to us. We can then assess your claim."
What makes me angry is that I clearly specified everything in the first letter, but yet, the first letter I got back was a set of questions asking about things I already gave the answers to in my first letter! Things like "Does your company provide laundry facilities?". Grrrr!
I really don't want to have to speak to management and ask them to write me a letter saying I wear a work uniform with company logo on it. I think the request will either be completely ignored, or I'll be classified as some kind of scrooge (as its basically £1/month). Not sure how to word a response if I don't, though.
Never claimed before, so I'm hoping its worth it for the backpay.0 -
I sent my letter off in October and this week got letters back each explaining how much I was owed and owed, very confusing till I opened the last letter...£230.75! Would have been more but in my 1st year in the job I didn't pay enough tax, but I'm happy with my 230 and my tax code has now changed to allow for my uniform washing :T
So thats £230.75 towards my DMP taking a month off my debt free datethank you Mr Taxman, you made my Christmas!
Support is hope, hope is a brighter future, the future is looking happy.[/FONT]0
