If the amounts given for the years 2008-2010 are added together they come to £33.93.

If they're P800s (A4 size and headed 'Tax calculation' on the cover note?) ..... you can't usually add them up. As HMRC have already done that. And they carry any under / over payment from the earliest year on to the next earliest and show it as an 'adjustment'. Then the net under / over from that - is carried to the next in sequence etc.
So it is the final year which shows the amount due or owing. In your case it's 'due' and there will be a bold '16' to the right hand side of the bottom figure. And which should match the cheque!

But as you don't yet have what appears to be the final P800 .... bit difficult to say? All the P800s for the years that were calculated together - the cheque - and the Coding Notice for the current year should all arrive within a max of around 10 working days.

I have a feeling I wont be able to claim the uniform rebate due to the years I worked but thought I'd check on here first. I worked from May 2003 to Aug 2007, have I left it too late? Many thanks in advance

Afraid so. You can now only claim back to 08-09.

A bit of detail as to the value of that? As it does sound as though they're doing it all via your current year Code.

THE new tax code is 826L which re-places 810L working out an over-payment of earlier years £163.00

just read on an article that you can write to hmrc and state weather you want a repayment or a increase in your personal allowance..is this right?
    hope this make sense

So there is no allowance for this current year (12-13) - which I assume is OK? The £163 allowance for previous years looks to be only 3 years back ..... so I assume you applied too late to get back to 06-07 which finished 31st Jan 2012 (from memory).

Yes - but that should have been in your original letter. If you're getting no income in 12-13 ..... then you need to return the coding notice and ask for a refund instead. Bear in mind the £163 translates to just £32.60 in cash terms - if you paid tax at 20%. (£163 @ 20% = £32.60)

    Hi all,

I wrote to the tax office on behalf of my husband about the uniform washing. He used to get the allowance in a previous job that he finished in 2010. But since then he had been paying the basic tax code. I've looked at his wage slips for the new job in 2010/2011 which showed 647L, in 2011/2012 it was 747L and now it's showing as 810L which I understand is the basic rate. He still had a uniform with logo that needed washing in his new job.

I received the reply from the tax office today saying that the relief has already been allowed 2010/2011 to date and there is nothing further they need to do. However it seems to me that it hasn't or the tax code would be different. Am I right or have I missed something?

I was thinking that I should send a copy of the wage slips and see what they do from there but wanted to ask if anyone else had any advice.

    Thanks

We have to wash my husbands uniform which has logos on all parts! I`ve just looked at a payslip dated 28 Dec 2011 (don`t know where he has put last few) its showing a code of 755L, would this mean that an allowance for the uniform washing is being made. Not sure whether we need to write to the Inland Revenue or not.

    Many thanks.
