Hello all, Im really sorry if this has been asked, but I could not see it anywhere. My other half works in a Pharmacy, part time, 2 days per week. Im wondering can she claim back the £60 per year or will her claim be less since she is part and not full time?

Two years ago my colleagues and myself wrote to the tax office about having to clean our own security uniforms. The tax office were quite unhelpful and then said it will be in your pay. None of us have ever seen any type of payment but the tax office at the time said it had been paid and even after reading out my payslip over the phone I still got nowhere. I am going to give them a ring tomorrow to see if I get anywhere this time, fingers crossed I don't speak to the same people as last time. Also do I have to claim for this each year or not?

    Thanks

No the allowance is always given in full. I'm assuming your wife pays tax - as it's only of value to taxpayers.

If the claim is admitted - it gets included in your allowance automatically whilst you're with that employer.

Look at your P60 to see if any tax free allowance is paid.

Hi, hoping someone can help me. I'm trying ot put a letter together for this rebate, My husband has worked for the same company for over 10 years as a fabricator welder. Anyone know how much i should be asking for? I have looked at the tax website and it says from 2004-2008 it's 115 then 140 after that.
    Thank you in advance

Give HMRC his NI number and the Employer Ref from the last P60. State who he works for and the specific job he does and that you believe the allowance is £140 .... and let them do the finer detail?

You can only claim back to 08-09 now.

  • Does anyone know if this means filling in a tax return in future?
My son qualifies but is dyslexic and would rather forego the bit of tax relief than get involved in forms.

No - it's simply an extra allowance on the PAYE code.

  • I worked at Subway when I was 16-19 part time, and washed my own uniform because there where no facilities there. I'm not sure about the tax I payed and whether it's worth claiming? I haven't worked there since September last year and I'm a student now. So I'm a bit confused with it haha. Any help would be great :)

If you paid tax it's probably worth claiming. If not - then it isn't.
