  • Hi just wondering if anyone can help me. I am a nurse and sent off my letter at the end of January. I received a letter back today (a coding notice) saying my tax code for the coming year will increase to 818L due to my professional subscription fees. However there was no mention of washing uniforms or anything about a rebate. Can I assume that is all the action they will take? But what about my allowance for washing? Can anyone shed any light? Many thanks :D
  • You should write in asking for your tax code to be increased by £140. Google washing workwear tax relief, visit the hmrc website, print off the info sheet about flat rate allowances, highlight the medical/nurses line and send it in with a covering letter explaining you have to wash your own workwear.
    Hope this helps

I did do that. Washing my uniform and my professional subscriptions were all documented in the same letter, and the coding notice allows for professional subscriptions but not washing? *confused*

No. The current year increase in allowances and the earlier years (I assumed you claimed past years?) are separate functions. There should be some P800s and a cheque en route for the earlier years. Give it a few days.

But - you may need to go back to them on the 12-13 Coding as they've added £80 which you may recognise as the subscription value? and there should be £100 extra for the uniform ?

I'd wait to see what the P800s say before you do that, however. As they may have left it out of all years!

    Thank you, much appreciated,

Yes the subscription value is £76, so I shall wait and see what the postman brings then! I may be back to ask more questions as deciphering letters from HMRC is not exactly my speciality :rotfl:

    Hi

I put in a claim in January for laundry expenses and worked out that I should be able to claim from 2005/6 as we were only part way through 20011/12?
I have just (12/4) received a reply dated 6th April!!!!! saying that I am only able to claim from 2006/7 as 'earlier years are out of date' Is this correct?

Also they have said that they will be adusting through my PAYE code not giving a refund and have also neglected to say how much!

Yes. In fact (from 6/4) you can now only go back to 08-09.

It will be in the P2 (Coding Notice) that will be on its way.

Deanos (the OP) was online yesterday and last edit was 21st March 2012. Not that it mentions dates though although others, most recently Mikyorks, have.
