Mike,
Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera are all browsers or applications that allow you to surf and view content on the internet.
If you goggle Opera browser you will be able to find info and read up on it.
When you boot up (switch on) the phone you have a choice of using Orange's platform or Android.
I use the Android platform and it has a built in internet browser.
It is very easy to unlock the SF - I used nckcodes to unlock my SF, paying £3 via paypal (£1.97)

I received back the info in minutes which comprised of a code. I used this with some simple instructions to unlock the phone.
There's loads of help on this site and very thorough help can be found here:

I purchased a case for £2.99 and a car charger for £2.75. I also bought 6 screen protectors (thin layer of plastic that covers the screen) for £2.25
Having had the phone for 3.5wks I have been confident enough to remove the Orange software and add applications (apps / software programmes) that allow me to watch tv / play games / etc)0 -
Thank you Rwalton for kindly explaining it all. I'll get my phone first tomorrow. please may i know where did you get the screen protector from? i've been looking for one but can't seem to find it. i was hoping that Invisible Shield would make one for the San Francisco but they don't. oh please may i also know what does the case look like? does it make the phone look bulky? Many thanks.0

Here is a link for the screen protectors I bought. Seems they're a little cheaper now:
Please note these aren't made for the SF but for the Samsung i900 Omnia but they do fit

The phone is slim and the case makes it bigger but it also provides some protection.
Again the case is not made for the SF but it will fit ok. I tried a gel case but it wasn't a good fit and I had to cut out the plastic where the speaker was covered

Thank you. I'll likely get the San Francisco phone tomorrow from the local Orange store. Then, will need to have it unlocked.
please may I know what is Opera? is it the browser used in the phone? if so, how do i install the native browser and not the Opera? i'm clueless with mobile phones and have never had a smartphone.
You can unlock it yourself for free by entering your emei number (printed on the side of the box) on this website

I got my San Francisco from Prepay Wizard and they also do universal screen protectors. One of the best phones i bought, so needed protecting. I didn't actually buy a screen protector from them, but being universal, guessing it fits, because you cut it to size:
