Decided to do the lemon curd and raspberry cheats trifles for Xmas dinner this year. But some of the other stuff is a bit to expensive for me. I guess you can adapt the recipes though and I love the idea of fast food at home, nice programme to while away the time :)

I would love to have all the fresh herbs on hand that he does - but cant envisage them growing well on my window sill for me .....esp this time of year ...

Love the grater he uses - the flat one that seems really sharp and he grates directly onto dish. Anyone know where I could get similar - or does it tell you in his book ?? - was going to print off recipes but think will treat myself to book. Have really enjoyed this series so far.

I have a microplane style grater for zesting (I do a lot of baking) and love it. It was from Lakeland but you can get knock offs fairly cheaply - try searching for "fine grater" rather than microplane, since the latter is a brand name.

For general grating I have a Tesco Value flat grater that does the job nicely - and I can grate over the dish easily. Has half coarse, half fine holes and a slicing blade in the middle. Think it was around 45p!

I thought the quick gravy & yorkie tip was good, I normal measure flour & milk.

I missed that episode - what were the tips?

I noticed that the entire week's programmes are being shown back to back on Sunday afternoon.
  • Justamum,

They're also available on 4's version of iPlayer: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/jamies-30-minute-meals/4od

  • I have a version of a microplane from IKEA. Only a couple of quid; not as sharp as the proper thing but does the job!

I think a lot of the chopping involved is using a food processor which is good if you have one but would take a lot longer if you don't.

I do love Jamie though and I am loving the new programme, ministry of food is one of my fav cookbooks and I can reccommend the chicken chow mein and the sweet and sour pork...adding the fresh herbs makes all the difference.

I used to have a food processor, but it got broken. I really must get a new one - it's only since watching JO that I remembered what a useful thing it is to have.

I've bought the book for 17yr old DS, he made the piri piri chicken in 30 mins (but didn't do the dessert) and it was lovely, the potato/feta dish was too and I'd use that as a veg dish with other meals, he used boneless thighs as that was all I could get and they were probably easier to eat, we probably cooked enough for 4, and shared it between 3 people and it cost me £10.72 for ingredients, had a couple of things already and some things, spices for eg only used part of what I bought :)
we made the mustard chicken dish last week, also tasted great and tomorrow he's cooking the pregnant Jules pasta dish :D
