Did the piri piri chicken and sweet potato mash tonight :D Got the thighs from asda for £2 so it was a true bargain less than a fiver in all and was gorgeous:D:D Agree about the olive oil though the piri piri had a visible layer on the top so defo less oil for future.

Ordered the book and its on its way :j
  • I'd go along with you Cat, with regard to his new book, if you're a foodie person who uses cookery books for inspiration, this is not the book for you. It's ideal if you need to have a step by step approach to a complete meal using time saving ingredients. OH bought me the book and I didn't have the heart to ask if I could return it.

I've just caught some of the programmes being repeated on Channel 4 today, and I have to say the programmes work, even if I don't like the book layout. The recipes are not particularly moneysaving, but I like the way he's cooking by chucking things together like I tend to do. The programmes offer far more inspiration compared to his book.
  • I made the chicken pie & peas last night & it was very yummy. I ended up frying it in the separate pan as suggested on here. If I was to make it again I would probably make the chicken bitesize pieces though. Im really enjoying this series. I'd love it if he released DVD set as although its on 4od there is a time limit.
Im going to flick through my newly aquired book & see what to cook next (on hol at the moment so have time to flick through but dont want to spend all my hol cooking).

I have the book too - hard to know where to start. |Going to through it tonight and pick out a few things and add all ingredients to supermarket shopping list for tomorrow. Some of them wont be cheap to make tho ...

The macaroni and cauliflower cheese looked gorgeous and has finally inspired me to spend my John Lewis vouchers that have been burning a hole in my pocket since last xmas.

So...who's tried any of the recipes?

We have made pork with cracking, potatoes, cabbage and Peaches and Custard. LOVELY it was such a good meal, can't wait to make it again!

Tonight, we tried the pizza, slightly disaster. Alarm bells started ringing when we looked at the dough recipe, nothing like our normal one, no yeast, and no resting.

The dough was, well not dough, we had to add 2 cups of flour instead of the 1 cup he suggests, and it's very very stodgy, i managed to eat a quarter of my half and couldn't manage anymore.

It's a nice idea, but i think in future we will stick to Hugh F-W's pizza recipe!!

Still, hoping to try the jerk chicken on Tuesday!

WHSmith have the book for £11.70 on line at the mo.
I think you can have it delivered free to store rather than paying for postage.

  • So glad to see that this excessive use of olive oil is driving other people mad too. Everytime I watch it I'm amazed at the amount of olive oil he uses, so unhealthy and not cheap either - although having said that neither are alot of the ingredients in the programme. I was actually beginning to wonder if there was something wrong with my cooking as I don't serve every dish drowned in olive oil - infact I try to use as little as possible!

I really like the programme and will try a couple of recipes from it but it is a bit disappointing that most of the meals contain expensive ingredients that prevent them being everyday meals for most of us - which is exactly the point of 30 minute meals!
