I got the Nigel Slater Real Fast Food book today from Amazon - its got some really good recipes in that take no time at all. It was only £5.99 on Amazon.
The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese
  • Tonight I made the cheat's cheesecake (from the risotto episode) ready for pudding tomorrow. Didn't make it quite the same as his - mixed the curd into the cheese instead of layering it and no hazelnuts in the base. The sneaky taste of the filling from the bowl was yum!

Best part was that it used up a handful of homemade ginger biscuits that had gone a bit stale, a tub of cream cheese leftover from another recipe plus the end of a jar of lemon curd that really needed using up. And I have the last bit of homemade raspberry sauce from YS berries in summer stashed in the freezer to serve with it. So more or less a free dessert! :j

I really like this programme but is anyone else getting annoyed by his 'NEED' to have a salad with everything? Don't get me wrong, I like a nice salad but with a roast dinner? I think he's just added them as they're quick and easy and it makes it look more impressive with one more dish on the table. I'd certainly not serve salad with all the things he's made!

It's a great way to get veg into people.
  • If he had to prep other vegetables then the 30 minute criterion probably wouldn't be met!

  • Ive been watching this and his obsession for putting loads of olive oil into every dish is winding me up! everything he cooks with has a good glug of olive oil in it, every single salad has a load of oil poured over it, surely its not healthy to be easting so much oil!?

I made his curry last night (the veggie one) and it was absolutely delicious. The lemon chutney....not so.... but the rest of the stuff was amazing. I also made the salad but it was far too much with the curry, rice, chapatis, popadoms etc. Still it was very very nice :)

It is weird his obsession with olive oil but it certainly tastes amazing!

OH and I now play a game where we guess how much olive oil he'll use each day because it really bugs us. One day we worked out that he'd added about 8 tablespoons of oil in total, which, at about 100 calories per tablespoon, worked out at an extra 800 calories!!

I've never known a chef who uses olive oil so excessively.

"Look at that, I think I'm going to get a letter from Delia for that."

    Bless :D
