Oh no I didnt "sort out my equipment".
OH has just bought ingredients for the chicken pie meal for me to make for tonight, but I've just realised that I dont have one of those roasting trays that can go on the hob that he uses on the show.
I dont have a cast iron cassorole. I do have a tray that I bought from lakeland for raost potatoes. Any ideas on what I can use instead??0 -
Have you got a Pyrex dish? That would probably do (a shallow one)0

I would just cook off the chicken in a frying pan and transfer it to a pie dish for baking. I think he mainly uses the same dish for speed and reduced washing up, but it's not a requirement.0 -
Thanks. I'll have a look. Would that be OK on the hob then0

I don't think you're meant to use Pyrex on the hob but as LD says, cook the stuff in a pan and transfer it to the Pyrex.0

I agree about the olive oil, it really winds me up. The amount he put on the sweet potato dish, to name but one, was ridiculous. If I ate all that oil not only would I feel pretty sick but I would be huge!
I also think the same about the salt he uses, way too much! If you want salt add it to your plate, cooking with that amount of salt is really bad for you. Salt is one of those things that you adjust to and then keep needing to add more, so you end up like him.
I think it is a bit worrying as he is presenting these as every day dishes rather than special occasion dishes. But I do like to watch for ideas and I have a lot of respect for all of his doing good works. I eat sweet potatoes all the time and I brought feta this week to give that dish a try. I read the article in the paper about his fifteen restaurants and what they do and how all the money from the fifteen restaurants goes into the programme for the kids. I have not heard of other many other affluent chefs doing such things and he is so rich that he does not need to bother.0 -
Oh thank goodness for that! I thought I was the only one getting ticked off by these niggly things. The things which annoy us:
The command to "get your 30 minute meals head on" :P
The board with a wet cloth underneath (it gets a bit repetitive)
The amount of olive oil he uses. Salad dressing, ok. Cooking in, a little. But to dress every single dish??
The daily "simple salad"
The amount of rosemary he uses. I'll admit that was more a Jamie at Home niggle, he's calmed it down a bit for this. But still....
All sniping aside though, I'm still enjoying the program and using it for ideas to translate to more OS meals we cook at home.

My DH laughs when he gets the olive oil out, we've even seen him put it on puddings:eek:0
