Well ive tried 2 of the recipes so far
The first was the cauliflower and macaroni cheese, it as georgous, me and my dd1 made this last week and we all loved it, OH doesnt normally like macaroni cheese but he had 2 eat it cos dd made it (she's 6 and my other dd is 3 and they both adore JO)and he really liked it. Was really easy to make it and the only change i made was to put about 100-150 g more cheese as we like mac and cheese really cheesy, took about 20 mins to make.
Today i made the curry (rogan josh) but i used balti paste as i had it in, changed the butternut squash for potatoes and added some left over chicken and we all really enjoyed it, it didnt have alot of sauce, more of a dry curry but was lovely. didnt bother with the sides as couldnt be bothered to venture out in this weather. took about 20 mins to cook.
So quite pleased with the receipes at the min, next on the list is the sausage cassoulette and one of the full menus as ive only tried the main dishes not the whole lot together xMarch 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
My DH laughs when he gets the olive oil out, we've even seen him put it on puddings:eek:
On the subject of him using alot of olive oil, I reckon its because his main chef that he learnt with is italian. the italian use olive oil and parmazzan cheese almost like seasoning.
Although calories are calories, we do need about a 20% of our daily cals to come from fat and the best types are natural and especially mono saturated such as olive oil so not necessarily something to avoid totally.
That said I personally wouldn't use as much as he does, but wouldn't stress too much about it when I did. Mind you I don't like all the chilli he uses and would reduce and in some cases take out the chilli in most of his recipes so personal choice really :rotfl:.

He is also obsessed with lemon and anchovies... they seem to go on everything as well!
I made the spinach and feta filo pastry pie, with a variation on the salad... it was delicious, and really easy to make- considering I've never made a pie, or used filo pastry before.
Definitely recommend that one- just do it for longer in the pan to cook the bottom than you think... mine was a bit soggy in the bottom.MFW 2010- £112,500 + 20% Equity Loan = £150,000 35 years

I agree with the lemon and anchovies - but I don't mind the lemon! There's not a lot for us veggies to eat. I'm thinking of doing an adapted spinach and filo pie but veganising it.0 -
I made his berry icecream (yogurt) and even with HALF the fruit we found it very sour!!
We are going to adapt the recipe to suit... it is lovely... but don;t accidently freeze it solid, it needs to be served soft!!
I also tried his yorkshire pudding trick (heating the pan on the hob) and found my yorkshire rose for the first time ever!! Only the middle rose and not the outside... so I had upside down yorkshire puds!!! Any ideas why???
Love JO, so does my son... it's his passion more then his cooking!!!
I look att he olive oil and think 'how much did THAT just cost him' I am very stingy because I like good oil... but can only afford to use it sparingly!!!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
I think the show is ok but I like Rachael Ray's 30 minute meals more she has been doing the show for years and also has a magazine like Jamie does.I get a bit confused with Jamie sometimes one moment he is saying cooking everything from scratch is better and easy to do then he is using lots of shop bought stuff also because of his school dinners program (which I agree with)salt cannot be on the table at school but then he uses loads in his cooking.0

Hey all
I was watching Jamie's 30 min meals repeated on channel4 earlier and he made a salad dressing but I wasn't paying attention to all the ingredients :rotfl: so wondered if anyone else saw it or whether it's in the book?
He chopped up lots of salad leaves on a wooden board and served them on this. He made hole in salad and grated some red onion, added salt, juice of a lime and olive oil I think. Were there any other ingredients?
I've googled but not come up with an answer
Cheers!
