Thanks Pink. I think I will parboil the spuds then. Thanks for the heads up on that. So, if i parboil, then slice them and do the same recipe from there, maybe that should be oK.
Pink, what did you use to cook it on the hob? Just a normal roasting tin? I have various stoneware casserole dishes that I would use in the oven, but knowing me, if i put them on the hob, i would kill them!!!!!

yeah when i read the method that was my immediate thought!:rotfl:

I just put my fave large baking tin on the gas for literally 20 seconds and it started to buckle!!!!!!
I think, what I will have to do is half cook the onions too, get it all ready for the oven, and then just put it in a high oven when i get in later. I hope if everything is almost cooked, then it won't take long later.

Sounds like Nigella's version is better. She cooks the slices of potato and onion in milk and cream in a saucepan on the hob, then just before they are totally cooked tips them into a dish, cheese on top and into a hot oven/under the grill. Can easily be cooked in 30 mins that way.

I always make it very similar to Jamie's recipe, but in a pyrex dish. Microwave first, covered, then take clingfilm off and into the oven:)

I hear ya Zip. It took me ages and a bit of fiddling to spell it too!!!
Anyhoo, I ended up parboiling the sliced spuds. Sliced and fried off the onions and garlic in a pan and put it all in my lasagne dish with some boiling water, cream and parmesan. Covered it with some foil then, hoping that the boiling water might cook it another wee bit.
Bunged it in the oven as soon as we came in about 7 and it was lovely, but underseasoned. unfortunately, my dh decided to be helpful while I was upstairs doing some necessary things while the spuds were in the oven.
He put the salmon on the grill pan. I had warned him that the spuds would take at least half an hour, so he put the salmon on a low heat. It was cooked and lovely even tually, but now I can't get the smell out of the kitchen. I have burnt a candle for about 3 hours last night, and the smell is still there!!!!!!

i made the 13 minute pizza tonight

    Observations...

    1) FAR TOO MUCH DOUGH! I made double the quantity and it made two doorstoppers!:p:D Loved the method, although i fired mine in the oven after for 10 mins instead of the grill . I was very nervous the dough was going to stick to the (standard sized) frying pan :o

    2) YUMMY . will do again using the same quantity of dough for two pizzas

    3) I used far far much more cheese than he did - maybe that's because i'm a cheeseaholic :D . Just eating the other half where i sliced the bottom half of the d-oh off and it's delicious :D

I'm planning on making the piri pii chicken tonight, and I don't have any white wine vinegar. I have red wine, cider and sherry-which would be best? (I also have balsamic and malt, but don't think they would be right ;) )
  • I watched it. I think it is really good.
