Dauphinoise potatoes

Options
Hiya
I bought a portion from a shop near me which sells home cooked frozen food.
www.cookfood.net
I know it's not strictly OS, but i had Dauphinoise potatoes in a london restaurant once and it was yummy!
Anyways, i'm stick on what to cook with it? I was thinking maybe a steak or someting, when i had the meal ata restaurant it was with lamb shank and spring onions but i dont even know what a lamb shank is tbh :o
Basically the dish is thinly sliced potatoes in a cheese/cream/garlic sauce.
Anyone got any suggestions please?

Really you just cut your pots nice and thin, maybe even part boil them,Layer them up in an oven dish, pour over a mixture of cream and milk, salt and pepper top with a few knobs of butter, then bake in the oven until the pots go soft. You can make it for a fraction of the cost of ready meals.

Caulflower goes nice with it, stir fried veg.

I used this recipe as it was the first one that came up on google. Really nice. http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/?p=297 when I was looking for something to go with beef dinner. Cheese in goes lovely with sausage and beans.

Funniest part was my son thinking I said Dolphin Nose Potatoes :rotfl:

Does it really matter that i bought them from the shop?
I walked past the shop, had a look merely because most of our clients eat ready meals from asda etc and i wanted to get a menu to see th cost then come accross the potatoes so i bought them.

It all depends what sauce it has, garlic one for example wouldn't go with gravy I don't think so grilled steak or chicken I would probably do with it, something which doesn't spoil them.

I know you have got it, but for 2 quid odd a portion ready made I was just pointing out you can make it much cheaper yourself.

I have had veggie burgers, Ham, beef, Stir fries-- alsorts with it really.

A piece of fish cooked in milk would go very nice with it, fresh herbs and some peas.

    Hi AM

I would most definately use that shop and will nosey around for it when travelling up to north kent next.

I would go with you intial suggestion - something like steak - robust but plain against the richness of the dauphanoise.

A nice steak or pork steak - you don't really want to much contrasting flavours and for veg - I would go for something green - whole string beans, sugar snap peas, broccolli florets - something like that.

Thnx all, am going to go for steak or chicken, carrots and spring onions, when i went for the meal they cooked the meat with rosemary too, so might give it a go.
lil_me yes it's a garlic one and although i love gravy on meat it would definately spoil it.
