I think i've been on this site long enough to know i can make it cheaper from scratch thanks phil.
jesus i spend £20 a week on shopping for me and my son, cook everything from scrtach and fancied a luxury.

I never said it was bad that you bought it.

I suppose the self evident question is what do you have in that you could have with it?

Posh sausages might be a good choice - good beef or other red meat sausage?

There's nothing wrong with treating yourself! I think sometimes we get too hung up on, "Oh no! I could make that at home for 20p!" Everybody needs an indulgence once in a while, whether it's a shop-bought dinner, a night out at the cinema or a day at the zoo :)

    Hi Astonsmummy

I love dauphinoise potatoes. They go with anything that doesn't have a sauce of it's own. Personally I have them with steak, chops, sausages, chicken joint or breast, even a roast dinner....

IMHO I don't think they go too well with stuff that has a gravy or sauce of its own. I mean they still taste fab, but I think the richness of the dauphinoise is wasted when you have a rich gravy (like a pie, or a casserole).

    Hope that helps xxx

    Hi AM.

Are you having a bad day?

I have never tried dauphinoise potatoes - HM or shop bought. What am I missing?

I agree with Ytaya regards getting hung up on whether you can make something cheaper v buying ready made. Sometimes though, it is nice not to have to be stood in the kitchen preparing, so I'm with you there.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your fancy pots, and whatever you have decided to cook with them.

    Regards
    Pipkin xxx

I love em too, and eat them with plain dryish dishes - steak, chops, roast chicken. I've also done them with salmon fillets and this was very nice. The only exception to this is to have them with chicken kievs (double garlic attack but very nice!)

    Hope you enjoy them.
  • The creamy sauce means they can be quite rich so a simple grilled steak or chop or chicken breast is probably a good idea with some steamed green veg if you have them.
If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!

pipkin - how can you tell? :rotfl:
Well i went with chicken in the end.
I seasoned some chicken breasts with all purpose seasoning, garlic and chopped sprng onions and fried them in a little oil, also near the end i added some whole spring onions, it was lush

I experienced the same kind of reaction once when I mentioned that i bought some profeiteroles  Anyone would have thought it was a crime.

I had those potatos (sorry can't spell it) in a restaurant once and it was with lamb and green beans. I guess it would go with any red meat.
