Dauphinoise potatoes

  • I'm making Sunday lunch for the first time ever today (eek!!) and Im serving it with dauphinose potatoes, which I cooked yesterday as wasn't sure how long it would take to cook.
So now I need to reheat it so that it's nice and warm for when the rest of the dinner is ready. The oven will be at 220*c as this is the temp needed for my yorkies to ( hopefully) rise, so how long should I pop the potatoes in the oven? The dish is an oval sized casserole dish 24x15.5cm and 5cm high.
Thanks to anyone that can help, I really don't wanna mess this dinner up and want to impress my mum :-)

I'd say that oven will be OK and reheat for about 30 minutes. You may want to put some foil loosely over the potatoes for the first 15 mins to make sure they don't go too brown on top. Occasionally dauphinoise can go a bit dry if they're already cooked and reheated, if you think yours need it just drizzle some milk down the sides. Hope your mum is suitably impressed!
  • Did it for 30 mins, and it turned out perfectly :-)

:TThat's great to hear. I had dauphinoise myself today from the freezer. When I make the recipe I always freeze one (alternative is to make a huge one and stuff my face:rotfl:).

    Hope your mum enjoyed hers.
  • Yes, she was very impressed about my meal.
Unfortunatly my yorkies didn't look errr quite like they were supposed to, but they still tasted yummy! Lol.

HI there, I wanted to do something like dauphinoise potatoes with bacon this evening,(as we are using up what we have in the cupboards, last few days before payday and all..) but all the recipes seem to say add cream to it (and ive never cooked it before!). Is there anything else I can use instead? I wondered if i could make a milky sauce or cheesy sauce? I have plenty of milk (and flour) if needed?

What I mean is, what can i use to create a bit of liquid so it doesnt burn up?

    Many thanks in advance! :)

    Hi there,

Now i'm no Delia by any means but i just happened to have had the same dilemma last week! I made it with a cheese sauce and it was yum!, made enough cheese sauce to cover the pots and made it a bit thinner than i would normally, put a bit of extra cheese on the top, covered with foil until the last 15 mins-(cooked for about 1 hour with foil on) Yum, Yum

    Good luck.x

A cheese sauce would give you a different - but gorgeous dish. Overwise you could use stock but not as tasty or as filling if this is your main dish

We've certainly used a cheese sauce sometimes! Thanks for the reminder!
