Milk is fine, and lower fat. You could even do boulangerie potatoes using stock in future.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0

I've made potato bake just with milk poured over thinly sliced potatoes and onions, with a bit of grated cheese on top. Good cheap dish to use up the last of a bag of potatoes and an end of cheese. You can put sliced tomatoes and a sprinkle of sunflower seeds on top too, or bacon or ham scraps in the layers. Even blue cheese or runny brie works.Val.0

potatoes in cheese sauce is usually called potatoes Gratin! just as delicious as Dauphinoise! but tbh you can just layer potatoes, cheese and onion (or just pots and cheese) seasoning each layer of spuds and cook that gently - Ive done that when Ive run out of milk and thats lovely too.0

whenever i make this i always use half milk and milk cream anyway, so i'm sure using all milk would be just fine.
but i'm glad ur cheese sauce worked out well and you enjoyed ur dinner.0 -

I sometimes do them to go with a barbecue, if we have visitors. Yum!If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?0

I only had them for the first time ever a few months ago. Mum wouldn't have cooked with cream really:o
My friend uses garlic cloves but doesn't remove them, and i've bitten into one once or twice  Bleugh.
Lovely potatoes but only in small doses - very rich for me.:oA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I'm home alone tomorrow night so I think I'll use up the last few eye ridden spuds in the cupboard on a potato, cheese, milk and onion type bake thing, using this thread as inspiration! Will report back on success or otherwise x*** PROPHECY_GRRL****** DEBT FREE AS OF 17/10/11 - I DID IT!!! ***0

I generally use low fat creme fraiche, some chicken stock and a splash of milk if needed. Also plenty of garlic!0
