Anyone know of any frangipan recipes that don't involve pastry? I love frangipan (and pastry) but am trying to cut carbs and fat a bit
You could use filo pastry instead? Use it to line a flan tin, letting it drape over the sides. Fill with frangipan and some fruit like pears (poach them a bit first if they're very hard) or peaches. Or use it to stuff some apples, with a few sultanas and flaked almonds.
I like frangipan too0 -

Something that really annoys me about Smiths. When you go on their website it doesn't state the store price. So if you have a £5 off voucher you pop along & find out the book is still cheaper to buy online as its £8 more instore:mad:
I know you can buy online but with reference & cook books you often want to look first.
As most of Smiths trading is still done through its stores I think they should state their store prices:mad:
But sometimes you get lucky, like the Nigella book & its cheap instore & really cheap with the voucher:beer:0 -
I made the piri piri chicken tonight. My local shop (T Express) only has parsley as its fresh herb option so I used that instead of basil. And I just baked it for longer instead of browning it off first, since I didn't need it in under 30 minutes. Next time I'll only use half the sauce, but it was yummy. It's also the first time I've used chicken thighs without complaint from DH so the recipe is a keeper! :T
Not sure about the book. I haven't seen it yet but if it's formatted like the above link which I used, I probably won't pick it up. Found it very confusing to have all the steps mixed together when I only wanted to make the chicken itself. :doh:0 -
I think this programme is great! I get the feeling that I wouldnt be able to do it in 30 mins like he does but just shows what you could achieve in a shorter space of time if its needed. I am a self emplyed van driver so sometimes i get in at 6-7 pm and trying to save money and be healthy, the last think i want is to get a takeaway, so i have been really thankful for the ideas and tips i have gained from JO, I probably would just do the mains during week so thats good enough for me!:j Started my weightloss journey, its neverending!! :j

i do like the programme, but i did wonder if a normal person could make it in the time. I'm a very experienced cook but i doubt i could do it in that time. the roast beef one for me was trypical of this, no way would his onions be cooked down like that after a few mins, also i know potatoes take longer than he says, i just feel if you weren't that experienced at cooking you would be worrying you weren't doing it properly when yours took much longer to do. just my thoughts'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

OH and i have decided that when we get paid again we are doing a jamie oliver week and are going to try following last weeks recipes and see how we get on.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
Debt payments 2012 £433.270 -
They are being repeated on Channel4 right now if anyone wants to catch them. There are 2 more left today. The last one was the roast dinner one.
To be honest I'm not liking this series as much as I thought I would. I'm veggie but love watching all types of cookery programmes. Jamie is coming over a bit smug, and like all the others have said there is no way normal peeps could make those meals in 30mins.
