Oh dear, I am really craving a custard tart now.
I love them so much! Natas. I have one every time I vist the diet clinic up in town!:rotfl:Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

Hmmm, I think maybe it's true it would be 30 minute meals for him, a professional chef who can work very very quickly, and a bit longer for others. That said, I still don't necessarily think it's a bad programme to have, as it may make some people think along the lines of "He's making all that in just 30 minutes, maybe I DO have time to cook in the evenings!" and try cooking for themselves a bit more.
Besides, has anyone else ever noticed that when doing a new recipe they take longer, but when it's a regular part of their kitchen repertoire they can knock it out much faster? I am sure it's just practice!0 -
I have both and LOVE the ministry of food, and find I use it all the time even although I can cook. I bought it for the OH and pinched it !
Im sadly not so keen on his new book, partly because you have to stick to the recipes exactly and also Im not keen on the layout.. I know its meant to make things simpler for cooking all at once but if you dont want to cook all the recipes you have to try to break them up. Unfortunately not his best book but I admire what he is trying to do.
He has a recipe for mac & cauliflower in his new book and it is also in Ministry.
One thing I don't like about the layout & its not just his book that has this....
Types of meals all mixed up:(
I would like mains & puddings seperate & in fact in all cook books I would like chapters for each seperate type of food starters, soups, salads, fish, poultry, meat, puddings, anything else.0 -

Now I'm wondering if I could manage a whole one of Jamie's menus in 30 minutes! I reckon I probably could if I didn't have to rummage in cupboards for baking trays and in the fridge for ingredients. But I might download the recipes and have a go one evening and report back.
Oh and I agree, you can't soften onions in 30 seconds. No way. Even 5 minutes would be less than I'd normally do it for.0 -
If it's anything like the 30min app on iphone it will be great! I have to admit, when I downloaded the app I thought I wouldn't use it but I use it all the time. It's really good and although you have to do a lot of things at one time, it's easy and done in a flash.
I am getting the book for christmas so having to resist the temptation of buying it for myself!
Loving the daily dose of Jamie though!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -

Well, I don't think he counts in the time that bit at the start where he's on about having all the pans you need out and ready to hand, stove heating, chopping board ready. You'd set out all your ingredients then too, all ready to hand. It does help, especially not having to take your attention away from any tricky bits to find things you need next.
I'd give it a go too, but he uses a food processor a fair bit so far and I don't have one.
MrsE, I've noticed older cookbooks tend more than modern ones to be set out in the way you say you'd like. Maybe you could stumble upon some online or in charity shops or second-hand bookstores? I'm talking about the sort that explain what pasta is and suggest what to use if you can't get it though.

As the proud owner of all of JOs books so far no doubt this one will find its way on the shelf too - My favourite two of his are Jamie at Home and Minsitry of Food - like Cat72 I like to think I can cook too so I didnt think I would use it much but it has become the most thumped next to my Delia encylopedia
I could do it all in 20 mins too if everything was chopped and ready in little bowls ready to throw in - sadly its this bit that takes the most time. Loved the look of the fillet tonight but having paid over a tenner for a teeny weeny piece from my butchers last week I would love to know how much those two bits would cost:eek: Still he didnt say it was a money saving programme either;)
Piri Piri is on the list must get some thighs0 -
