Got the book discounted in Sainsbury's - just wish they didn't have the program on at 5.30pm which is during rush hour and a lot of us cant watch it unless we have certain recording channels. Only just caught the last 10 minutes tonight on Freeview - oh well!!At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)0

My OH made a comment when Jamie was making the gravy, he put the sliced mushrooms & onions in the frying pan and 30 seconds later they were all nicely sauteed and softened, they would take at least 5 minutes in real life.
The meal looked nice but I can't see me being able to do it in 30 minutes, I wouldn't bother with the watercress salad either, it seemed a bit odd to have with roast & gravy?
They did an article in the Evening Standard this week about the timings - everybody went over the 30min and said they were exhausted afterwards, and not overly impressed by some of the food.At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)0 -

MrsE, I've noticed older cookbooks tend more than modern ones to be set out in the way you say you'd like. Maybe you could stumble upon some online or in charity shops or second-hand bookstores? I'm talking about the sort that explain what pasta is and suggest what to use if you can't get it though.
I think the mixed up style is a fairly new approach & I mean quite recently new.

No way can you do these recipes in 30 mins especially if you are going backwards and forwards to the recipe.
I have tried the piri piri and loved it but it was too fierce for OH. I'm not a lover of smoked paprika either so just put in a raised teaspoon and it was enough. There was a lot of the piri piri sauce left over so, as it's been cooked, I have saved it for another time. The only other thing I would do differently is marinade the slashed chicken on the underside only for an hour or two.
Someone asked about the potatoes. Because of one of OH medical conditions I can't use a microwave for cooking veg and he doesn't like sweet potatoes. I had some left over roasties so I just fried off some onion and garlic with the potatoes and then added feta cheese. Delicious!
Did think the choice of fillet beef was mad as not many could afford that especially midweek but there isn't another cut that would cook in 30 mins. There must have been £20 + worth there.
You can get some of the recipes here

I have both and LOVE the ministry of food, and find I use it all the time even although I can cook. I bought it for the OH and pinched it !
Im sadly not so keen on his new book, partly because you have to stick to the recipes exactly and also Im not keen on the layout.. I know its meant to make things simpler for cooking all at once but if you dont want to cook all the recipes you have to try to break them up. Unfortunately not his best book but I admire what he is trying to do.
He has a recipe for mac & cauliflower in his new book and it is also in Ministry.
I'd go along with you Cat, with regard to his new book, if you're a foodie person who uses cookery books for inspiration, this is not the book for you. It's ideal if you need to have a step by step approach to a complete meal using time saving ingredients. OH bought me the book and I didn't have the heart to ask if I could return it.0 -
