hi all and thanx for the welcome
feeling abit tired today after a lazy week with kids off school back to earlier starts again, and have begun a period after not having one for about 3 months so that's not helped either. Forced myself to excercise this morning even though I didn't feel like it and will take dog out this afternoon. Thinking of all of you who are feeling down at the moment. A bit of sunshine would be nice to lift our spirits - so fed up of seeing grey skies. :(

(((Joyfull)) - I've been thinking of you lately and wondering how your mum was doing. It is hard when they are ill and it does cause more confusion. Try to get as much rest as you can as it is all so draining on top of this lovely transition we are going through.
Hippee - ah Crosby, Stills and Nash eh? Forgot the 's' in my last post - shows my brain likes to catch me out. DH booked tickets to see them a few years ago as a surprise for me. I was ecstatic!! I sang and danced along and - as you say - was transported right back to teens - in my case I was 14 and in my bedroom wondering why no-one understood me . hhmm still having trouble being understood all these years later.
Now folks, I DO NOT have a date for the tra la la but please know that we will get there! In the mean time, keep on keeping on, take each day as it comes and try to find pleasures where you can. I'm just loving the flowers coming up in the park and the buds on bushes. The snowdrops here are huge and strong, the biggest and tallest I've ever seen. Some are in big groups and there are also healthy stragglers or loners. I'm sure I've said this before. Anyway, I see them as a mirror of how I feel, sometimes part of the group (family or society) and sometimes really on my own. But I can see that whichever way I am, I am still here! Bit deep, eh:)?
Nickybat - how did you get on yesterday? Hope you were given good advice. Very draining (!) to bleed for so long.
Hippee - could you have something like an orange with (after) the iron rich food? Potatoes have high vit C I think. Ribena is on offer in T$sco at the mo I think, though not sure how much vitc is in it.
Ok, DH has a day off today and we are off out for a short train trip and a walk. This reminds me, walked to the Botanic Gardens yesterday - first time I've gone and they were so beautiful. One free thing that I've taken from the Susun Weed meno book is to walk more - it counts as weight bearing and is good for my heart. A lot of it is pavement walking for me, being in the city, but I see that as a goooood thing as the pavements are nice and hard to help keep my bones strong
    Take care all.

Not sure really Blood tests have shown i have too much blood so i am being referred to the hospital to(a) have some drained off and (b) further tests to find out why this is happening. My dr has also told me to make an appt with one of the female dr's at the practice as he says they know far more about HRT than he does so i have made an appt for that.

So not really what i was expecting

Nickybat - in my last dr practice, there was a female GP allocated for 'women's issues'. She was so knowledgeable and it really helped me when I wanted to discuss meno things when they started happening. I'm sure she will be good to talk and will put your mind at rest. Good that they are being thorugh and having a good look at you! The sooner they find the best way to halt the flow, the sooner you will get your energy levels back and feel so much better.

A(nother) question for you all, when you were advised by a doctor that you were indeed going through menopause were you given blood tests to confirm this or were you just given a verbal diagnosis ? Was it several trips back and forth ?

I've got a doctors appt on thursday, the first since Ive been experiencing my various symptoms and im worried. Im very young to be going through possible menopause but the more I read the more my symptoms seem to match, im just not sure if im best to ask the doctor if it is or list symptoms and see what conclusion they draw.

luckily ive got a female doctor, they will at least be able to relate to certain sides of it all !!

wmf - i am certainly hoping she can help me, i cannot carry on like this.

mishkanorman - if you don't mind me asking how old are you?
i was 40 when i started the menopause i just didn't know it at the time. When i finally realised something wasn't right i went to the Dr and they did blood tests and they were repeated several times - because i was considered too young.

not at all NickyBat :) , Im only 31 - which is why im fully expecting the doctor to ignore my concerns. however I started my periods when I was 8 so im far from the norm when it comes to cycles ! Ive had consistent periods and its the only part of menopause I couldnt say applies to me, hot flashes, sweats, forgetfulness, cramps, severe pmt (every 2 weeks - im a real joy to be around ;)) thrush, painful joints, lack of energy - I could go on - these are all within the last 6 months.

    Hello mishkanorman
Can't speak for the others, but I had a simple blood test to confirm that I was going through the menopause.

Went to see my GP as I was (and still am) constantly shattered, but was also having all the other menopause symptoms and she said she'd like me to have a bloody test.

So I had to got back to have a blood test and had the result within a week, showing that I'm bordering on anaemia (as I have been all my adult life) and that I'm going through the menopause.

I don't see why you couldn't request a blood test - that way you would know one way or the other, although, having read your symptoms, I think your GP will suggest that herself when you reel them off to her, if she doesn't, just ask her if it's possible to have one as you'd like to know.

    Hiya Menos,
Cold breeze outside for 'flushers' who need a quick cool off.
Thanks for kind thoughts everyone. Visited Mum y'day. Very muddled behaviour. I'm running around trying to deal with her concerns, never sure if they're real or imagined! She asks me to do something, then tells me off (as if I'm 4, not 54!) for doing it. I must get the nursing home to intercept all official looking mail....
Crikey, just noticed the time. Been awake since 4ish, however went to bed early, had the usual restless night, but feel OK.
Hope you all see some sun today - so uplifting. Will try to dry washing outside.
Take time to relax and take time for yourselves.....
