I think you are Mrs PP I guess that kind of makes you lucky too
Thanks for the welcome nappentassHot flushes at night mean I wake up soaking, especially round my neck and (not a good image this) under my tummy 'flap'so i end up wearing my PJ's waist elastic under my tummy to absorb it - yuk!:(
I had intended to use freezer ice blocks to remedy the 'sweats' but by the time I do wake up, it's too late and it's all over.
I just sleep in a cotton sleeveless vest top and knickers. I used to sleep naked up until about a year ago, but I find my bottom and back get cold if I try and do that now, so I just wear the top and knickers.
Nicky My hair is naturally wavy and I straighten mine to, but as soon as I'm near any moisture - pfff! Instant Crystal Tips! And you're not alone on OH asking you if you need the loo before you leave the house, lol - mine does too. In fact, it's got so that when I'm going somewhere, I have to make a point of finding out where a loo is as soon as I arrive, as I seem to have a bladder the size of a pea!
wmf I'm afraid I don't take or eat anything that may help my cause - because - as you may have seen on another thread we both post on - money is extremely tight for me since losing my job last year. I knew kelp was rich in iron, but didn't realise it was rich in calcium too. What is the nettle tea taken for then?Aug11 £193.29/£240

Another one here with curly hair that goes boing when damp. Fog and it's ....
Mrs PP - nice to *meet* you. Hope you join the gang of menos - you don't have to be a fully fledged meno to join
Hippeechiq - any green leafy veg would be good for calcium. I'll look it up tomorrow and post what I find. I usually buy Savoy cabbage - often on a good price in Lidl - and we have cabbage with everything! The seaweed sprinkle thing is likely to be more expensive. In the Wise Woman book I'm reading she recommends yoghurt every day so you could have a go at making your own. Or maybe you already do! I'm planning to have a go. She also recommends nettle 'infusion' which nappentass has been drinking while i've just bought 99p nettle teabags - prob not much nettle in them but i feel I'm doing something! Nettles are good for the adrenal glands which, i believe, work extra hard during meno time. But this is what I have read and what I am happy to try for myself - not in any way advocating it for anyone else. Just sharing a bit of info about things commonly consumed in meno time which are not expensive. So, even cabbage and yoghurt (natural is about 40p a big tub in Lidl and maybe tesco or sains cheapie is the same price - I usually get the cheap one anyway) would give you a good whack of calcium for strong bones.
Calcium again - fizzy drinks are not good for calcium. What else? Exercise is good! Even better if it's free, hence me starting walking more. Running/ jogging is supposed to be good for bone strength but there isn't much chance I'll be doing that so I try to walk fast some of the time. I think weight bearing exercises would be good for arms (bones I mean, or is it joints?) - my DD read up about it and suggested I do arm lifts with tins of beans. I've been thinking about it but haven't done anything yet;). I have found that on the days I walk quite a bit, I am more ready for my bed.
On that note, I'm having my cocoa and off to bed now!
Hope you are all blessed with a good night's sleep or at least rest.

Update on the incontinence tablets - they seem to be working!
I've been fighting a cold for nearly a week, and some of the coughing fits do 'burst the dam', but i can go to the loo in my own time now, and don't have to get up in the night - it's wonderful! Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
That's great news hun :T
Can't remember the last time I didn't have to get up for the loo in the night. It's usually at least twice, but I have had that particular trait all my life.Aug11 £193.29/£240

Raksha - great news :j
Welcome mrs pp - everyones different - one of my friends afaik has hardly had any meno symptoms - although I do believe she's 'done' now iykwim:p
I choose the nettle infusion from the book cos I don't eat dairy - although soya substitute are becoming more common & therefore cheaper, so I can afford when on offer - and according to the book (appendix 3) has lots of calcium as well as magnesium, phospherous, potassium & zinc - she recommends it for lot of things that are bothering me!. £1.49 'makes' 4 x 1L 'jugs' so if I'm trying to do alternate days so will last for a week - so for me it's a cheap way to provide possibly lacking nutrients at this time of life cos of what I can't eat, rather than taking supplements
have a good weekend all0 -
Raksha, what tabs are you talking about, i have had that problem for a while now but didnt know anything about tablets0

I'm 56 this year, still ovulating (how scary is that?), still having regular periods and never had a menopausal symptom in my life. My FSh is still under 20.
I'm under a consultant for endocrine issues and every time I see a new one I'm asked when my periods stopped. I say they haven't, they look at me strangely and move on.
Am I unusual?

No, I think there is a wide spectrum of "normal", like most things in life. I am 53 asnd very similar to you. Had about 8-9 periods last year, but spot on normal, Jan and Feb this year and no symptoms to speak of, despite looking hard for them!
When you read about other women's experiences it starts to feel weird and ever so slightly worrying to be like this. Ever so grateful at the mo though too. There are some majorly debilitating symptoms and I have every sympathy and admiration for the way ladies cope.0 -

They're called Vesicare (solifenacin succinate)
