Hi All - not feeling great emotionally wise but trying to keep busy & am ebaying clutter & getting into the swing of it more.

Hi Nomuny - you sound like me - I am the same. It is scary but better when you know others are going through it too.
My brain feels as if it's melted but I just go with it but annoying.

Hi nomuny - sorry you are having a horrible time but am glad that you have found like minded/ bodied spirits here!! My spelling gets muddled, as do words. I have only once felt a huge heat go searing through me but no doube will experience more of them. I get hot at night but no sweats.
Choille - I had noticed your absence and was thinking about you when i was out with the dogs this morning. Sorry about you feeling low. This will pass and we will all skip and dance and reclaim our lively selves:dance:.
On the iron intake front, I've had orange juice along with my poached egg on toast and marmite today. Yum yum. I think I probably need it after the period from hell last week. Not so much pain but just a flood. Wonder when the next one will come but the way I am trying to get my thinking round it all these days is to remember that wondering when blah blah won't change anything. Just let it be. Cool eh :cool2:?
I'm listening to Crosby, Still and Nash Marrakesh Express right now - I'm going to put it back at the start and sit and do visualization of being there. All aboard...ta ta

Hi wmf - glad you are going with the flow - which is an awful pun considering. Sorry you have the period floods - not nice but you sound good.
It's better weather today now - much brighter - makes a difference.
    I'm up & down like a yo-yo.
Have been feeling stressed but talking my way through it!

    Hello Lovely Ladies,
I get real comfort from this thread. And, I love the humour and support. I feel I'm being a bit greedy for comfort atm as I feel physically weak & just plain worn out. It's become a time in my life for just accepting the physical stuff without running lots of negative stories in my head. Just staying present and inwardly quiet as much as possible.
My Mum has been very ill in the nursing home so I've had to give her lots of care and be the pivotal point of communicating it all to the rest of the family - who all have their own ideas as to how she should be cared for. She's recovering but is very very confused and I'm having to learn a whole new way of being with her...
Big hugs to all who are going through a difficult time, take it all a moment at a time and be very very kind to yourselves.

    Hello & Weclome nomuny
Isn't it a relief to find this thread and discover that you're not going mad? :)

joyfull - Big :grouphug: to you hun. It can't be easy having the roll reversal with your Mum. It's hard to watch parents become frail in body and mind, and at a time when your body is playing silly bug*ers with your hormones and therefore mood.

choille - Sorry to hear you're struggling too hun :grouphug:
I myself was very low a few weeks back and it's hard to claw your way out of it.
I also feel I'm constantly under a lot of stress because of my daughters illness, and because money is tight. And each time I think I've got things sorted, something else comes along and sits on my shoulders :( and I've had to have stern words with myself to stop myself going down again. I'm trying to focus on each day itself instead of worrying what's coming up and allowing my thoughts and fears to snowball.

I need to increase my iron intake too. Can't take any form of iron supplements without dire consequences, but I'm totally shattered all the time. I've had a blood test which shows (as it's shown all my adult life) that I'm bordering on anaemic.

I've never tried Spinach - what are other peoples thoughts on it?
I've read All Bran is high in Iron _pale_ but, ewwww. I do eat Bran Flakes though. I try and eat dried Apricots as I know they're rich in iron, but I heave as I do so :o. Can't afford steak, don't eat any other red meat for the same reason (except mince on occasion, oh, and stewing steak in casseroles) Can't afford to have orange juice with every meal to aid any iron absorption. Tried liver a couple of weeks back (which I used to love years ago) but I really didn't enjoy it very much. Um....not sure what else to try that I can afford.

I eat dried dates, beans & pusles, love Broccoli, but have read recently that peas contain more iron that broccoli , although I love peas too. Loathe dark green cabbage. Don't like carrots, but eat them. Eat wholewheat bread, rice and spaghetti.

Any other obvious foods rich in iron that I'm missing?

Wow!! wmf - Crosby, Stills and Nash. Blast from the past or what?! Just reading those 4 words and I was 16 again :)

Hippi you sound like you are eating all the right things.

A couple of interesting links re the maximising the iron intake. looks like the oxalic acid in spinach actually inhibits the absorption of iron, which was news to me. Not sure from the link whether this is just when spinach is cooked though, hope so as I buy a bag of baby spinach and use it raw instead of salad leaves, as well as cooked. Will check further.

Have you tried dark green cabbage, shredded finely, cooked and tossed really well in a little butter and salt and pepper? Honestly, that bit of butter really transforms it and takes away the slight bitterness.

Another budget meat suggestion, Sainsbury's ( and I'm sure the other supermarkets sell chicken livers. Very cheap, about £2.50kg. They are extremely high in iron and can be used to make pate, which you could freeze in small quantities and might find a more palatable way to consume liver.

on a moneysaving note its VERY easy to grow the baby leaf spinach which u just keep on cutting and it keeps on growing, i have mine in a big pot outside the kitchen

joyfull sorry to hear about your mum its very difficult hippee says this role reversal is very depressing and somethng i am sure a few of us are looking at right now, just at the worst time for us personally to have to deal with it

dark cabbage shredded, add cream and cheese and bake in oven, makes it much more palatable

    keep strong everyone :)
