sorry to hear everyone is having a bad time with flushes, have to say i am the same at the moment - oh for a decent nights sleep huh?
anyways to try and put a bright side on it, saw this this morning
"Researchers have found that those worst affected (with hot flushes)at the start of the change actually have a lower risk of suffering heart attacks and strokes"
full article if anyone wants to read it

You sound very stoical, but then what else ?? AAAAAArGGGGHHHH as much as you like, sweetheart. I'll AAAAARRRGGGGHHH for you too!
LOL - thank you Bronnie
wmf If I'm at home, I have found that running cold water over the inside of my wrists helps me too
Oh Nicky - you have my sympathies hun. One of the most difficult things for me, is I find it embarrassing being served by someone in a shop when I'm covered in sweat with a bright red face, and - as if that isn't enough - when my hair gets wet/damp (as it does when I'm having a really bad sweat) it frizzes so I look like Crystal Tips FGS!!......for those too young to remember her - lol
Knowing how awful I look, I just want to get out of the shops asap which in turn, can make me a bit flustered & clumsy - it's not a pleasant experience.
Words can be very elusive too I've found ....usually mid sentence!....just to complete the impression, that I may, in fact, be on "Day Release" from some Institution :rotfl: Something else I've noticed, is that I'm very clumsy and also that when I type, I constantly get my letters the wrong way round.....that's if the right word will come to me at all.Aug11 £193.29/£240

OMG you have soooo made me laugh, you are mirroring my life. i have very curly hair naturally and i have it done and straightened at the hairdressers every week and i too end up like the hair bear bunch.
i so know exactly how you feel, even the typing lol and the running to the loo all the time, i can remember as a child going out with my nan and everwhere we went she had to go the loo, so i got wise as i got older and before we went anywhere i used to ask her if she needed to go the loo................now my hubby is doing that to me:rotfl:0 -
Welcome hippieechiq to our crazy meno world
I'm not always hot when I start to have rivers of sweat, sometimes I don't feel hot & in fact my skin can be icy cold ?? what's with that?
Had the nettles twice this week and must admit not had as many 'deluges' this week so they seem to help me, also had to make a real effort to get loads of fluids cos I was starting with headaches (I can get them when dehydrated!) until I started with nettle stuff again
The worse thing at the moment is memory  asked my hypnotherapist friend for some help & she had to remind me she'd given me an InnerTalk memory cd to play - doh! must work on playing it everyday it's subliminal stuff and I think it helps. I'm trying hard not to get frustrated by it, esp when I have a complete memory dump mid sentence when talking to clients!!
Hope you all have a good day

shykins
had a good nights sleep last night - mr N put the fan on cos he was hot too and I had a good night cos it was so cool in our broom - and extra bonus the cat didn't come in wanting to play & head butting me in the middle of the night! so after my loo trip I didn't bother switching it off - luxury

Hi Hot things,
Shykins - thanks for the article. That's made my day - well cheered me up. Would be sooooo good to know there's some benefit to the endless hotties. I feel too tired of them to even have a reaction. Just wearily rip off the clothes & plod off outside & get madly fanning. Then freeze etc etc, on and on......
Spring is on it's way. Flushing is marginally less hassle in the summer as there's less to remove.

I thought that was only me, it also happens when I'm talking to people and the word I want slips down my throat and dissapears and I'm left mouth open and nothing coming out of it (some may actually be grateful for that)
Hot flushes at night mean I wake up soaking, especially round my neck and (not a good image this) under my tummy 'flap'so i end up wearing my PJ's waist elastic under my tummy to absorb it - yuk!:(
I had intended to use freezer ice blocks to remedy the 'sweats' but by the time I do wake up, it's too late and it's all over. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
well lets hope they are right and there is some positive to the flushes cos blowed if i can see them right now.
anyone else go freezing cold just before a flush?? i get so cold so snuggle up to hubby who obligingly cuddles me to warm me up then i get SOO hot and yell at him not to touch me. lol poor hubs
oh the word forgetting.. OMGGG that gets to me probably more than anything else its driving me crazy. got a DSi for christmas and am ploughing thru brain training in the hope it might helpWhen you know better you do better0 -
Well I am laughing here at you lot! No, I am laughing WITH you. nappentass - re your memory and the CD - I'd already forgotten to drink nettle brew and that was only 2 days ago AND I'm still reading the book but seem to only retain the bits I'm actually reading. I had lunch with DD and DS yesterday - fab food but it was so funny (not) the amount of times I stopped what I was saying. I actually said 'look you 2, this is perfectly normal and I'm actually thinking the rest of the sentence in my head - sometimes'. I've been like this for years! Funny thing is, I have always been able to hold my attention when I teach - I think I must concentrate on that so much that there's never been anything left over. Not teaching at the mo though, so no excuse now! Ah, not always on the ball with teaching and the right words - I once told a class we were going to do 'spunctuation'. Now, I meant spelling and punctuation. They looked at each other and a few said 'did she just say spunctuation?'. It was FE college and they were a carpentry class, 17 yr olds lads.It was brill! Ah memories eh?
Anyone eat seaweed? I'm going to get some of the sprinkle on stuff - v good for calcium. I read in my book that you get more calcium from boiling kale for 1 hr than from steaming it for a few mins. I just can't believe that so am going to read up on it. hhmm maybe though, when you think about the nettle infusion. I'm interested in finding out more about calcium rich foods and also the ones that work against calcium absorption. Working MSE into this, I want to find which of the green leafy veg has the most calcium and also where I can get the veg cheaply.
That should keep me out of mischief!
Have a good evening all

I've been reading this thread and I feel almost jealous in some ways. When I had my first period, Richard Nixon was President and the Beatles were still together. I'm 56 this year, still ovulating (how scary is that?), still having regular periods and never had a menopausal symptom in my life. My FSh is still under 20.
I'm under a consultant for endocrine issues and every time I see a new one I'm asked when my periods stopped. I say they haven't, they look at me strangely and move on.
Am I unusual?
