Coming onto this thread is like visiting a lovely warm sitting room with comfy sofas and chairs, choille's woodstove crackling away, a kettle gently whisting, tea, coffee and the odd tipple always at hand. Oh, a box of lavender scented tissues for mopping hot brows and drying tears and wiping fluey noses. Next door is a huge bath surrounded by scented candles, essential oils and large fluffy towels. In another room is a masseuse (male, hunky, non pervy and possibly gay so there are no boundaries crossed ;)). A box of choccies, forever full, sits in the corner :D. No mobile phones unless they play heavenly harps and never have to be answered. .Oh, Bronnie you get a chauffeur driven car to ease your present woes!. and on and on.....

    Loving it!!

Shykins...someone pulled out straight into the side of my car on Thurs. She was driving a pretty massive tank-like thing and as well as the impact, shunted my little car across the road for a bit before she realised I was even there. Age-wise, she was one of us.....but she was uninsured so.......I'm ok and fully comp so will be ok, thanks for asking!

hello to napentass, interesting to read what you're finding helpful and lucky lucky you that DH is "hands on" is what I say!!

Hello all - Joyful hope it goes well with your mum & things appear clearer. It i s not a good disease for things being clear. If she has any valuables with her could you ask the matron to put them away for safe keeping?

Not too bad a day at all. I have massive dental stuff happening to me tomorrow & I am not looking forward to that.
Anyone got any tips in getting rid of a spare tyre around my middle. I have never had one of these before & I don't like it at all.
Not getting flushes at all apart from one last night when I was sat right next to the stove after eating a hot spicy dish of pork & wearing all my jumpers at once just about coz I'd been cold earlier. So I do think that is brilliant that they have gone , but I am not really sleeping that great - waking up early on & can't get back off to sleep.

    Hi Choille,

BTW how do u pronounce your name?

I remember you saying way back that you had this big dental stuff happening. I've lost 3 teeth in last year (2 in front from fall) & now have a small upper denture. Really wish you well for tomorrow. Ironically being a bit sore in the mouth may help shift that spare tyre. Don't do too much physical stuff whilst you are healing. An amazing thing happened when I had my fall. The hot flushes stopped immediately and I had a break for abut 3 weeks until they returned. I felt it was the body's way of saying you've got enough to deal with & I'll give you a break. XXX

Hi Joyful Many thanks - what lovely posts you do.

It's pronounced Hoi - ley. It's gaelic meaning wood, as in trees.

Sorry to hear of your fall. That can't have been nice.
I seem to have had gum disease & kept getting abscesses - so always had low level infections for a year or two. It's another reminder that I'm not getting any youinger. The dentist has slowly being removing my teeth - just have visible ones at the front - so it has not been easy to eat for quite a while, can't chew salad at all. In a way it will be good to get the dentures as my front teeth are wonky now & look a bit squint & ghastly. I did used to have nice teeth.
Once I've had all the dental stuff done then I'm going to get my eyes tested as I have those bought in the Pound shop specs & need to sort that out. What an old crone I sound. My eyes aren't bad just think I should have a proper prescription. I wonder if, due to hormones these things happen - eyes change, gums etc.

It's a bad forecast for tomorrow so won't be missing outdoor stuff - may just go to my bed & read as there is someone due to pop round & I don't think I want to see them.
Do you know of any celebs that have false teeth? I look at people's teeth now & really don't want to look like I have false teeth.

Don't know of celebs with false teeth as in dentures, but they've all had cosmetic stuff done I'm sure. My false teeth look really natural. It's all NHS, so was basic, but I've been very happy with the look of them. Discuss with the dentist how you want them to look. I'm sure they can match the size (& colour -ish) of your natural teeth - maybe mention it before they come out! The denture took a bit of getting used to, as they can rub initially. I ended up getting the nail file out and VERY carefully sanding down bits that rubbed as every trip to the dentist was 32 miles (my dentist would have had a fit!). Even now I only eat softish foods and I'm absolutely fine with it.

I too have got deteriorating eyesight and wear the 'poundland' type specs. I did have prescription ones but they broke and to be honest the cheapies are just as good. I will have to part with cash again though to be properly tested one day.

Hi Joyful - thanks. I think they are better at doing dentures now. I did insist on having a gap in my front teeth as that is what I had. The dentures have been getting made for a while & I've had a few 'fittings'. It has all been planned as he told me a while back that we should rather than let thm get increasingly worse & they fall out. So I've been going every few weeks to get some out at the back.

He did say that it will be soft food for a while - but it has been for ages as mainly my remaining teeth are very loose - so in a way it will be good to be able to eat properly again when I'm all healed up.

That's good to hear that about the specs - I have about three pairs & they look fine - most I paid was £6 for a pair of Foster Grants out of Borders when I was away somewhere without specs. I think I'll go for the check up though as you should have all the checks I think - for pressure & stuff - I think.

Didn't sleep too great again last night so I think I'll have an early one tonight.

    Hi everyone,

Well I had a great sleep last night...so good that I overslept very slightly........by 15 mins.;) . . and had to rush in to wake my daughter up for school!

I feel 'normal' today....isn't it strange how we can change from day to day?

Its been really cold here today...met my daughter from school and we went to watch the lights being switched on......but they weren't switched on 'til 6.30 and we were freezing so we came home early.:( My OH had cooked a curry while we were out, so that was nice that i didn't have to cook.:T

I'm off to watch Eastenders in a while, one of my 'pleasures'....

Hope everyones had a good day, without too many problems.:)

Ah how lovely to come home to a cooked tea dogcat! Fab.
Bronnie - how awful re the car. Very frightening. Hope you are feeling ok now.
Choille - Hoi-ley. Well I've been calling you 'coil' in my head so will have to get rid of that. Lovely name and link. I 'have' a tree on Skye, which DH bought for me from Joe Strummer's re-forestation work after he (J Strummer)died -plan to visit it - little hug. The bay window of our livingroom overlooks a park (4th floor flat) - I just love trees. Love them. And stones. Just adore stones and always have collections around the flat. I'm like the kid having to have her anorak pockets emptied out when we are at the beach with the dogs. I have to put some back :(. When I go to my parents' grave I sometimes take a stone from some special place, or just a nice stone i've found, and stick it in the earth. All very grounding stuff :D. My sister is a bit like me - she went on a yoga retreat in India (erm...not like me there then) and brought pack some tea - gave me a pack, she had a pack and then she sprinkled some into the earth by the gravestone for my mum as she was such a tea fiend. We take great delight in this. Hope I haven't offended anyone!
    - have been reading about the book you recommended and may well open the purse strings a bit and buy it. I think it might be my cup of tea (hehehe). Loved Women Wo Walk With Wolves and also Succulent Wild Women, although I've lost my copy of that. My DD's partner bought me a great and wise book last Christmas -The Hey Nonny Handbook (subtitled A Literary Survival Guide for Women). Fab.
I am loving the warmth in this cosy place here. Your ideas of all that make it fab, joyfull - baths, hot drinks, tipples, massage - how wonderful. Very descriptive. Do you know what? I'm only off to light my blimmin' scented candle! There - can you smell it?it's posh you know, present from DD. I've even dipped the lights. The dogs are making contented noises.
Re the teeth - I'm sure they will be fab Choille. You will feel much better to get it done.
Re the specs - mine are from Poundstretcher - very fetching with two tone brown legs. I did have prescriptions for a while but dog ate 2 pairs then I went to the optician in Edinburgh last year and she said I was fine with the cheapies. Specsavers, that was. really efficient and not after my money.
Ok folks. Am off to plan what to bake for DD's birthday cake tomorrow. Did i tell you I have her birthday tomorrow? She will be 26, then my son is 24 the next day. Good timing eh? Always had separate parties when wee so they couldn't moan when older. I used to have a glass of wine at the ready. Just the one, mind.. The more afterwards, that's for sure.
    Good sleeps all

ed to add - is it legs or arms for glasses??

wmf - hope the birthday/s go well. Homemade cake lovely.

I'm getting wafts of your candle.
I think it's lovely with the stones. I look for ones with holes in - witches stones as they are supposed to be protective.
My Mother gave me a shell that is nice to hold I should look for it & take it with me tomorrow. I am loking forward to getting new teeth in a way as mine are looking pretty ropey now. I haven't told anyone apart from OH of course - it's not something that I am prepared to share - apart from on here - so thanks all for making a safe place for me to have a whinge about that. Means a lot & has made me feel better about it.
Good to hear others have cheap specs too - I think it's legs for specs.

    Have a good evening all.

I do agree with everyone else...this is a really special place to be....I have 'visions' of what everyone looks like too.;)

It feels all cosy and friendly.

choille, Im sure your new teeth will make you feel lovely...you won't be able to stop smiling.:D

My teeth aren't too bad...but I really need to go to a dentist. I haven't been since...wait for it..........I was.....16. :eek:I seem to have a phobia of dentists. As I say, mine are ok....but I know I need to have a few bits and bobs done...Im just sooooo scared. You wouldn't believe it to see me. I've had six kids...and a few tatoos...and I'm s c a r e d of the dentist!

Well Im off to bed now...sleep tight everyone! Sweet Dreams.
