EEEK, you mean I have been paying a fortune for milk of magnesia:eek:
Lol, I'm afraid so hun (I used to as well), they add stuff to make it smell nice and spread easily etc but for those with sensitive skin the added ingredients can be bad, so plain old milk of magnesia wont block your pores etc and suits everyone which is why a lot of make up artists use it, some people put a thick layer on as a mask but this has never done much for me:)
Thanks for the welcome shykins:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Hi all
I'm having an anxiety day and not sure how much is meno related.
In short, I'm 53 with 2 grown up children DD has her first proper job after uni now and is settling into it nicely (and her new lodgings)
DS at 25 is still with me as he can't get a job
I've been divorced for 9 years now and except for a couple of blips, I'm happier on my own than with someone or trying to find a bloke who is up to standard in one way or another.
I moved nearer work 6 months ago to cut down on travelling costs and also to downsize. I achieved both those things with this house. 5 minutes drive from work and the house was cheap as it needed updating. I cracked on immediately with new windows/doors/fascias etc. New kitchen, bathroom, knocked kitchen wall down to open it up, knocked bathroom and loo into one. Redecorated throughout, carpets, curtains - everything is new, even down to curtain poles and the door number.
Today though I'm feeling anxious, I'm not especially happy at work, nothing major but just not fulfilled mentally. Too old to retrain for anything I think.
A couple of months ago I toyed with the idea of selling up and moving to the West Country somewhere. My sister has just sold her house so she and BIL are moving to Cornwall next month. We are not that close that we see each other all the time but are in regular contact by phone and e-mail. I had a visit to Devon at that time as I think Cornwall is too remote and would hardly see my DD. I found Devon too claustrophobic for living there but ok for holidays.
What i'd like is phase 2. Phase 1 was lowering my mortgage and outgoings. So now I'd like to downsize again and perhaps not have a mortgage at all. The mortgage is now around £47k and the house has been valued at £240k (paid £180k for it in April)
So I back to worrying about it, where to live, where to work etc etc
That'll be me not sleeping tonight folks.
I hope that everyone else is having a much better day!Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

I don't know if your anxiety is meno related or not , but you have been through some major changes in the last few years...don't be too hard on yourself. How about friends??? Sometimes getting together with someone and getting away from your own four walls might help. Anyway hope you feel better soon.
I had a very bad night last night. Had my first flush just 30 minutes after I fell asleep, and then again two hours later , and then again another two hours after that...then the dogs woke me up as one had an upset tummy:eek: Hope the supplements arrive soon and more so I hope they work.
Had a very MSE day today, sold some old lead from our garage and got £70:) Then took my car to the garage as a light was out and they repaired it for free.(i have used them for years.)
Well fellow "hot ladies" hope you have all had a good day.Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0 -
On another note, what do you ladies use for facial make up during hot flushes? I have used liquid foundation for years but now it tends to just slide off my face. I don’t like mineral powders either, only pressed powders. I like to look glowy but not shiny.
Revlon used to do a good compact & they've stopped selling it - It had good coverage. I'm annoyed as I got a couple for 99p each out of savers, but can't find it now anywhere., but looked natural. I only wear makeup when going into town, not very often. I found Rimmel matt mousse [okayish]
The ache stuff is worrying - could hardly walk around Inverness today. Getting out of the car I'm almost yowling. Sorry to hear of all your aches & pains everyone.0 -
Spirit - what a lovely name.
I like the website coping.org sometimes, depending on my mood. It does have stuff about higher power which many folks don't like, but some of the articles are quite good, sensible.
You've really done a great many things & have acheived an enormous amount of stuff. I think you need to pat yourself on the back.
The anxiety can be helped by CBT - cognitive behavioural therapy. I got the book the idiots guide to CBT & sometimes reread bits when i get tense. I would go to yoga but am a bit aching at the moment. Some people find hebal remedies that work for them.
Lavendar oil is good to sniff - shouldn't be put directly on the skin, but a couple of drops on the pillow won't harm you. No caffeine after 8pm helps me get off to sleep, or rather if I drink coffee after that time it doesn't help me sleep.
I think that there is a switch off activity that we all need to find - whether it be a good film, reading, cross-words, writing - whatever. If you can allow yourself an allocated worry time & then try & set that aside for the ruminating earlier on in the evening for 15 - 20mins say. It is so hard to do & I wish I could achieve that when the anxiety hits me, but just now it has lifted - as yours will too.
Whatever - you don't have to make any major decisions just now do you?
All the very best - sorry to ramble.0 -
Hi everyone....the weather here tonight is blowing up.....a lot! We're meant to have rain and gale force winds coming in tommorow and the weekend....great!
I've had a few flushes today...but not too bad. My foot aches a lot at the moment. I don't think it's 'pausal, its the heel of my foot that hurts, when I get out of bed I can hardly walk on it. During the day it's not too bad but still hurts. I've also got Ulcerative Colitis...and Raynaulds disease...Im just falling apart!
Hope everyones ok and you have all had a good day.0 -
am catching up with you all slowly. The heating in Valli towers is now turned off, the Vallikids have been told to wear more clothes;) (thanks to someone up the thread who pointed out to her kids that they can put more clothes on while she can't take hers off).Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Morning my menopausal lovelies!
I'm having a day out at the coast today with my parents and my daughter and because I don't know how long we'll be out I've got to pack what looks like an overnight bag full of san-pro and spare clothes.
Happy flippin' Days eh?
I'm not sure what to suggest for make up. I've only had one full on red faced hot flush and it completely nuked my make up. I'm not sure what could withstand that.
Hope everyone feels a little bit better today. xNot everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0
