The HRT question has to be one tailored to your own history and needs weighing up with your doctor's advice & input.
I managed to get 'Is it me or is it hot in here,' by Jenni Murray in a charity shop a few months back & forgot about it. I've started to read it & it's very indepth & I would recommend trying to get it. She's looking at various case studies & just lays out all the info to help you decide what is out there. And obviously what works for someone may not work for you or be suitable.
There are alternatives to HRT that can be got over the counter - many containing soy, I tried some from a Savers that cost 99p a few months back & didn't notice any difference.
I bought a different brand from a supermarket & have been taking them for a few weeks & the last couple of days the anxiety has lessened considerably, but is it the suppliements or something else - who knows? But the anxiety was really, really bad - so I am more than chuffed that that has lessened, but it may have done on it's own accord.0 -
In my experience there can be many factor that influence meno symptoms. I'm currently taking yet more expensive 'supplement' but can't honestly say if there is an improvement as flushes increase and lessen in waves anyway. I did give up caffeine because of terrible insomnia. I now drink v weak tea using a (very MS) washed out tea bag - sounds disgusting, but I truly enjoy it.

i have also been using supplements on a trial and error basis - buying them when they have been BOGOF to lessen the financial impact
i recently ran out of one of them which in theory was to help my brain power (HAHA some chance!!) and suddenly the flushes came rushing back. have just ordered some more BOGOF and will see if the flushes recede again
i agree joyfull, many of my friends are a good deal younger than me as i was an older mum, so they have no idea what i am going thru.
i find jeni murray funny and intelligent so may look out for the book, to be even more MSE wonder if the library will have itWhen you know better you do better0 -
I agree Joyfull, it can be extemely lonely at times.
I also agree that what works for one person may not work for another. There is a large list of symptoms that go with the menopause and we will have some combination of them.
Whether to go for HRT or natural remedies will be a matter of personal choice.
I have also noticed a marked difference with the remedy I am trying. Much less flushing and anxiety. I think I will stick with it for now and look for the best buy. it is a lot less expensive than some I have seen (companies love to exploit any vulnerability).0 -
Talking of natural remedies...
I'm amazed that no-one has mentioend the Linda Kearns menopause cake yet - this is excellent, and really can help. Linda Kearns has developed a recipe that contains loads of natural phyto-oestrogens to help the symptoms of menopause.
You can either buy the cake itself, or for money savers you can get the recipe and bake it yourself too, either do a Google search or see the link here:

I have no connection to this company, by the way, I have just been using the cake for years - firstly to help alleviate PMT symptoms. I thoroughly recommend it - the date and walnut variety is lovely by the way!

i get to a shop and realise i have forgotten the voucher, or i order from somewhere then realise i forgot to check for a code first - oh its soooo annoying when u realise u could have saved money on something if your memory wasnt so flipping badWhen you know better you do better0 -

Lists, diary, notebook.....just have to remember to write them down and where you wrote it!!

The doctor mentioned to me a bread - I think it begins with 'B' that is supposedly beneficial as it contains the flavinoids stuff. I didn't quite catch what she said - could it be bulgar wheat?0
