    Magnet? What am I missing?

Teachergirl - the no sleeping is a drag. My sleeping seems better - slightly. I am outside as much as possible. We work from home so I can sleep in. I have used lavendar oil on the pillow in the past. I also keep cut out cross words from a newspaper beside the bed & try & do those when I can't sleep. It helps to focus the brain & helps you switch off - well it does me. I seem to get off okay but am waking really early on & lying there sweating!

Umm I just read the letter but the pregnancy threads and TTC threads are ALL CHAT. How does this work out?! I'm only twenty, but I've seen the effect on my boyfriends mother and feel pain for her. She is always saying she is up at all hours but after a long chat with her she saw the Dr today :)
  • Hi there choille. magnet thing mentioned in post 134. I am now watching a couple on e-bay. Although I know after reading the thread I will have to check how old they are.

    What a nice sympathetic attitude!

We're often the butt of jokes with younger folks, so this is refreshing. I hope bf's mum gets some help.

Yes, the chat thing..... We're all being v careful. ;)

Anyway, morning all. Hope the sleep was not too steamy for everyone.

I tried the magnet a couple of yrs ago and it was dramatic - stopped the flushes immediately. Just to test it I took it off & flushes returned. After a few months I took it off & the flushes returned. Back on the magnet - nothing! it hasn't worked since.QUOTE]

Mine never worked the second time, I can't say it had a placebo effect in me the fist time as I am very sceptical of these things and did not really expect it to work.
As I seem to go through phases from very bad to hardly anything, I guess at the time I was just staring to go through my hardly anything so it appeared to work. Who knows? and if you think it works then great no harm, but for me the magnet is now sat in its box at the back of the wardrobe unused :(

It would seem that it isn't gaurenteed - I'll give it a miss. You would think they'd offer a money back thing as it seems expensive for a magnet.
I think if it was as wonderful as they claim I would have heard of it before now.
  • Hi Ladies
Just found this forum, had a read through and thought i would join in if that's okay.
I have just turned 40, have been in the menopause since i was 37, it was a surgical menopause after having treatment for cancer. I was told it would just come on, and boy it did. I have really suffered with it. I have had no choice but to go on hrt because of my age, and i am still struggling after nearly 3 years of popping pills every day.
I have terrible nights, not much sleep, wake up dripping in sweat, then go freezing cold as well, it is so weird. I have gained weight, i forget everything unless i write lists, god i could go on, but i think you understand. It has changed my life completely, i so wish i could have a rewind button, and go back a few years. I used to moan about pmt, but i wouldn't now after this.
My gp is wonderful, but there is not much they can do, they tell me it will get easier, they said i have got it worse as it was not a natural process.
Sorry to moan ladies, but it is nice to have someone who might understand what i am going through.
Can you take supplements/herbal tablets whilst taking hrt?
    Thanks
Make the most of your days, enjoy your life.
  • Hi there iloveboots:grouphug:

Sorry I actually don't know the answer to your question but I thought I would just send you some love and sympathy. I know most of the things you describe and empathise totally. I am 47 and I had four or five months last year with no periods and loads of flushes. Then they went away, only to come back again this year:( I hate the fact that I have put on so much weight. When I spoke to my GP he just said this was to be expected at the menopause. Anyway not wanting to accept this ( or spend good money on a gym membership.) I took up running and have after 7 months managed to loose half a stone. (loads more to go) I find it very difficult to motivate myself as I am so tired and grumpy most of the time. Maybe we can use this thread to encourage each other:)

I think exercise is a wonderful way to improve so many aspects of our health and well-being.

Teachergirl I admire you so much for keeping on with the run ning even though you don't always feel like it! I guess that's because you've worked through it to know you're going to feel better once you've actually done it! If only we can hold onto that thought, it would be a great motivator!

Off-thread, but last winter I got very down-in-the-dumps from November to February. Hate the winter and the cold and grey days with a vengence and put on a lot of weight quickly, was really inactive and was over-sleeping (google that and surprisingly it is quite a serious health threat in itself). Got myself back on track last Spring and was determined not to have another awful winter.

Am permanently fighting the half-stone of flab around the middle, but this year have tried to be more pro-active and positive. Have found a ladies-only gym, which is a really warm, friendly and supportive place. It's £28 per month off-peak, £7 per week, which |I think is good value for money really. Importantly, it's somewhere I'm enjoying going to and can feel my fitness and mood improve. I've also changed some of my lights to daylight full-spectrum bulbs and picked up a bargain SAD lamp off ebay in the summer and concentrate on trying to include all the "superfoods" in my diet, which is easy cos that's the sort of food I like anyway!

What's this to do with the Menopause? I don't know, but trying to be positive this winter and keep myself as strong, healthy and positive for whatever might be in store for me seems like a good plan!
