I had agreed not to continue posting on that thread.

I'm not causing trouble, just doing what you do, putting my point of view across. Or am I not entitled too?

So you are going to cause trouble in this thread instead then are you??? The forum manager wasn't just just talking about one thread only.

All your posts are an attempt to personally discredit me personally. This is what is causing trouble in the forums, and is going off topic.

Now stop this personal abuse, and lets get back on topic.......this also applies to you Jonjo42.

My current mattress is the best I've ever had (and I've tried lots, as I had a very bad back), it's pocketed spring and soft memory foam. It's a Kaymed. If I have to get a new mattress, I'll buy the same model.

Standard memory foam beds don't suit me -- or didn't then -- they're unyielding in cooler bedrooms.

edited to add: I bought it offline, from a well known discounted beds store!, trying about ten beds there before deciding.

I should point out that most quality bed manufacturers in the UK buy their memory foam from Kaymed and Vitafoam, or quite often they use both, as the quality is identical.

Also there are very few manufacturers of pocket springs in the UK. So most of the quality bed manufacturers will use one or two of these manufacturers.

This means that the main difference between different models is the exact specification, and how well they are assembled. So if you look for another mattress made by a smaller independent manufacturer, but with a very similar spec, then you would most likely get an almost identical mattress for a fraction of the price.

You are so right, whatever anyone suggests its rubbish.
Does Tim only sell one sort of mattress.

No Tim doesn't only sell one sort of mattress, I sell a very wide range. Which really blows the trouble makers theory out of the water.

I have myself been out all day looking for a new bed and am also totally confused! I am a very hot sleeper and the bedroom is very warm so am worried about memory foam but I do suffer with lots of aches and pains and the foam topped mattresses felt very comfortable. Went into three major chains and each one gave me different advice. What I really want advice on is if I should just settle for a normal pocket sprung bed or go for the laytex topped version for the extra comfort? I have about £1000 to spend on a king size divan. Did you find the laytex top hot?

Natural latex is far cooler than memory foam, and doesn't tend to cause over heating. However you have to be very careful when buying mattresses that contain latex, because many manufacturers (especially the big brands) only use a very thin layer of latex. And in many cases it is only in small areas of the mattress, and the rest is usually made up with reflex foam (which can be very hot and sweaty). So check the specification, and be very wary of terms like 'zonal support'.

Also make sure that the latex used is natural latex. and not a blend or synthetic, as it's only natural latex that has the cooler feel, and gives the high level of support.

Is this a decent one and would it be much better than the memory foam one described on my thread?

I'll probably get slated again by the other bed traders in here for saying this, but here goes:

First of all it is made by Rest Assured who are part of the Silentnight group. Anyone who has read many of my posts will know that I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole if you want your mattress to last.

As far as I know the latex used by all of the Silentnight group is a blend of natural and synthetic latex. These blends are made to be far cheaper than natural latex, and don't have the same cooler feel, or the same support properties.

The latex layer is only 20mm deep, which isn't really worth having. It is probably bulked out with cheap reflex foam.

It doesn't say so, but from the look of the mattress I suspect that it could contain the smaller and less supportive reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs (another of my pet hates).

The mattress is also non turn.

All in all is very expensive for a non turn mattress with only 20mm of semi-synthetic latex, and possibly reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs.

Not foam encapsulated, you can tell from the side stitching.

    This isn't easy!!

Not convinced I would benefit hugely from a turnable mattress as would probably forget to do so!

Getting more and more confused now!!

Maybe will stick with my current as want to be confident will notice an improvement over the months after purchase.

rather than me stealing someone else's thread perhaps those who clearly know a lot more than me (even if you don't agree!) could comment on this?
