Now I know that you were one of their victims, because you have been on most of the mattress threads to tell people that you paid loads of money for your Kildare mattress.
Now this is a money saving site, so most people on here want to save money, so I will repeat the FACTS (not just my opinion) about why shopping at Dreams isn't money saving.- Dreams have a fake price promise, because most of the products they sell have been renamed. This means that you can't buy them anywhere else, so they can charge what they want.
- They have a constant so called sale (just like MFI used to). All they do is sell each product in one or two stores for a couple of weeks a year, at their so called full price.
- The truth is that in most cases you can find the exact same model (although sometimes slightly higher spec) under another name for half the price elswhere (and I mean half the Dreams so called sale price).
There are many threads on MSE complaining about Dreams.
The OP asked for peoples own experiences of their bed, that they had owned for some time.
I posted my own opinion on my personal experiences.
If people buy a product they like they are entitled to post when others ask for recommendations of peoples own experiences.
I'm getting a bit sick of you rubbishing my posts everytime I dare post that I purchased a bed from Dreams & an very happy with it (& so is my DH who suffers badly with his back).
You overstep the mark Tim, you are a poster the same as any other & I am going to report you to MSE because I really do think you use MSE to rubbish competitors & MSE is not about trades people self promoting or damning competitors, its about ordinary people & their honest opinions & experiences.0 -
Tim, I asked for people to let me know what type of mattress they have to help me make an informed decision. I am perfectly capable of then deciding where to buy from. On looking through the various mattress threads, it often seems, as in this instance, that you take an unpleasantly aggressive tone towards people. It is unnecessary. You obviously spend a lot of time on here imparting your wisdom, and I'm sure some people take it at face value. But let's be honest here. What you say is mostly your opinion, and it is no more valid than that of others. I've spoken to a couple of independent companies, and they contradict the advice you are offering. One is a family business that has been going for over 100 years, so I think they know a thing or 2 about mattresses. I would therefore appreciate if you would desist in commenting on this post unless you are going to be civil.
MrsE, thank you for sharing your experience. It's a shame Tim was so rude to you. If you want to buy from Dreams, that is your choice. We all know that buying from a big chain is more expensive, but you get more choice, you know you can go back to them because they won't disappear overnight, and it's good to actually be able to go into a store and try out what you want to buy. This site might be about money saving, but it's also about avoiding dealing with dodgy shysters!0 -

I know I paid top dollar for it, but if it lasts 10 years it will be cheap per night:D
The fact is I looked at so many beds over about 6 months, independents, chains, ideal home, everywhere.
When I get into bed at nightb & my bones are aching & I'm dead tired it hugs me like a cloud. Its the best bed I've ever owned or slept in.
And I don't own a bed shop or work for one ever;)0 -

Then why don't you recommend a few mattress' to the people of this site. You are always saying you cannot do it. We are not asking you to advertise your business, just some some beds that you think are better than Tempur.( and cheaper)
On other threads on this forum there are loads of people in other business' that recommend things. Why can't you?

At a risk of being shot down by Tim I have a memory foam mattress made by Komfi and it is now about 5 years old. It is the most wonderful comfortable mattress I have ever had. My OH has had back problems ( including a lower back operation ) and he sleeps like a babe on it. The best thing to do is to go to a store and try out a few. It was not cheap but I think you get what you pay for in a mattress. I would never buy on line as you can not try them for comfort/support.
I bought it from a local trader not a big store.0 -

I would never buy online either, unless it was like a Tempur (or other known brand) where I could try in a shop & source that exact one online cheaper:money:0 -

Actually in my posts if something is just my opinion then I will say so. Otherwise it is fact.
As for other retailers knowing what they are talking about, I'm sure they do. The difference is that they are trying to sell you something, and I am not. So who is going to be more impartial.
As for Mrs E. She asked advice a long time ago, and I spent a lot of my own valuable time giving impartial, and very good advice. However for no apparent reason she started being rude to me. And since then she crops up on numerous threads to often tell people how much she spent on her bed, and that people should buy from Dreams. Now it was completely up to her where she bought her bed from, and how much she paid for it. But to continuously advise people to buy from a retailer who are well known for very high prices and dodgy sales techniques, then that isn't exactly money saving, and goes completly against the whole theme of this web site.
What you have to remember is that many people only have any in depth knowledge of one or two mattresses that they have owned. However from being in the trade, and knowing how the industry operates, I give out advice on a wide range of products, and not just one or two models.0 -

Because I am in the trade, therefore it goes against forum rules to recommend anything that could lead to personal gain.
Some of my posts may often sound negative. This is because many people ask me advice about certain models. I then give the pros and cons for that model, but if it isn't a good design, then my post is going to appear negative. If I said "that mattress is brilliant", then people just assume that I am advertising it.
So for this reason most of the advice I give is general advice about what is a good design, and what is a bad one. And also I tell the truth about the hype, gimmicks, and dodgy tactics often used in the bed industry. Obviously this can ruffle a few feathers occasionally.0 -

You are a very rude man who believes only his point of view is valid & anyone who thinks different is wrong.
You have even accused me of working for Dreams:rotfl:
I'm am 42 so have owned more than 2 mattresses;)
I am NOT continuously advising people to buy Dreams beds. What I am saying is my particular model is without doubt the most comfortable bed I have ever owned/slept in & that Tim is also a fact:cool:
I did ask your opinion & I tried lots of chains & independents to see what I liked & I took my time. I then went & spent my hard earned money as I saw fit on the bed that pleased ME & DH most.
Its really up to the person buying to pick what THEY like & you seemed to have taken me buying from Dreams as a personal afrontage.
Oh & Tim, you are the one obsessed with how much my bed cost, you never fail to bring it up. This is a consumer & money site, if you recommend something, you need to quote cost &/or link, be a bit silly raving about something & then not quoting the source or price. Cheapest is not always best & not always what people are after Tim. The OP was looking at the Tempur range, so he's certainly not looking for a cheap bed, he's looking for quality for his wonga:money:0
