Memory Foam v Pocket Springs with Foam
Comments
-
My current mattress is the best I've ever had (and I've tried lots, as I had a very bad back), it's pocketed spring and soft memory foam. It's a Kaymed. If I have to get a new mattress, I'll buy the same model.
Standard memory foam beds don't suit me -- or didn't then -- they're unyielding in cooler bedrooms.
edited to add: I bought it offline, from a well known discounted beds store!, trying about ten beds there before deciding.
Mine is a Kaymed;)
Its got a Dreams name on it, sold by Dreams, but its a Kaymed.
I would buy mine all over again.
Kaymed make great beds:D0 -
My concerns with Tim's contributions are exactly these: (If you look at the pattern of posts of people asking for mattress advice they nearly always go like this:)
1) Someone asks advice about a type of bed and it's price at xxx retailer
2) Tim then appears and tells them it's poor quality, or overpriced, or not as good as they could get for the money from a small independent online retailer (such as his own company...)
You are so right, whatever anyone suggests its rubbish.
Does Tim only sell one sort of mattress.0 -
After reading some of the posts I did consider buying a two sided mattress but as I couldn't actually view one before buying (I don't buy anything that I haven't actually seen) I went for a pocket spring and latex top.
I find the mattress very comfortable but, as Pinkypants states above, rotating it is difficult and heavy work, so completely turning it over would be a no no, and my bedroom is a fair size so anybody with a small to average size room will find turning a kingsize mattress very difficult especially if someone had bought one because they suffer with back or arthritis problems.
So buying a double sided mattress would have been false economy for me as I would never be able to turn it over.
ML.
I have myself been out all day looking for a new bed and am also totally confused! I am a very hot sleeper and the bedroom is very warm so am worried about memory foam but I do suffer with lots of aches and pains and the foam topped mattresses felt very comfortable. Went into three major chains and each one gave me different advice. What I really want advice on is if I should just settle for a normal pocket sprung bed or go for the laytex topped version for the extra comfort? I have about £1000 to spend on a king size divan. Did you find the laytex top hot?0 -

As per my thread - not completely happy with my memory foam - but not sure if spring/foam combination would be much different - apart from heat what sort of difference did you notice?0 -

Good to get some real owner feedback and advice here - looks like Kaymed are a decent brand with happy customers!
I'm going to check these out.
It really is a breath of fresh air to get real unbiased advice on here - I got enough sales info at the shops I visited, hence why I was shocked when I looked on here and found another bed salesman dominating proceedings!
I for one would like to hear more from real bed owners and their experiences on this site and I really appreciate some opinion I can be sure is without bias as no one has anything to gain!0 -

BTW, try Googling the following to see why Tim Deegan devotes such a large part of his life posting on this site, I get the impression you're of the same opinion as I am:
"Tim Deegan"
"2 sided memory foam mattress"
"mattress with satisfaction guarantee"
"2 sided pocket spring mattress with memory foam"
Surely someone should report this as promoting yourself and your own company has to be against the forum rules?
It may not be blatant, but effective enough to keep him coming back, regardless of the countless people that take exception!0 -

I find the pocket spring and latex great, the memory foam was an expensive mistake. I laid on more beds at more bed shops than I'd care to remember, I narrowed it down to either a Rest Assured or a Millbrook. I went for the Rest Assured Rossini 1000 from a local independent bed shop who beat the best price I had found on the internet.
I was told (and I don't know if it's true) that memory foam is hotter because it's man made whereas Latex is a natural rubber product so doesn't cause the problems of overheating.

Hi
Thanks for that it is most helpful. I have been looking at a Rest Assured Sicily Pocket Sprung with latex at Dreams for about £999.00, although I am sure I could find it cheaper online. I have also considered a Millbrook or Sleepeeze pocket sprung and the Relyon Chatsworth which is pocket sprung with a memory foam topper. Relyon say there memory foam is not hot and it is incased in a 'cool comfort' layer but I am not sure I am convinced. I think I will discount the memory foam and decide between a straight pocket sprung and pocket sprung/laytex.0 -
Kaymed are a decent brand that's for sure, they make a very good product, mainly top end stuff. In my view.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0

Why don't you let the forum into the secret world of beds, we can then go & buy from wherever we like.;)

That's exactly what I do, as I said previously.0
