Memory Foam v Pocket Springs with Foam

I realise there are various threads on here regarding mattresses, but some of them appear to degenerate into a peeing contest between members with a vested interest in the bed industry!
I am looking for advice, preferably from people willing to impart their experience of their own mattress that they've had for a period of time. I am looking for a new mattress. The choice now is between either a memory foam mattress, or a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam. Can any of you let me know if you have one of these mattresses, and any pros and cons.
I've looked at a Which report from 2009, and Tempur came top in customer satisfaction, and my friends have one and it is lovely, but I couldn't spend that amount on this purchase. IKEA came bottom in terms of customer satisfaction, but I've had an IKEA mattress in the past and it seemed fine.
I've also seen the arguments on here about buying from independents rather than major brands, partly for price reasons and partly for quality. In principle, I would prefer to do so, but there is no guarantee that the independent isn't some fly-by-night selling shoddy goods. However, again, if any of you have a positive experience of using a small firm, I'd love to hear from you.
There is so much information, and much of it conflicting, that any information you can provide would be appreciated.

Pocket springs give excellent support by contouring to your body. However they can still cause pressure points. Memory foam and latex foam will mould to your body, spreading your weight out, preventing pressure points. This is why the two systems work so well together.
Tempur did come out top in the 2009 customer satisfaction survey. However one thing to consider is that they give a one month trial, so in theory there shouldn't be any owners of Tempur mattresses who are unhappy. So they should come out top. On the other hand Tempur came out bottom in the 2006 memory foam mattress report, which was carried out using tests and other criteria, but not customer satisfaction. So judge this how you think best.0 -
Thanks Tim. My friends have had a Tempur for ages, and swear by it. Is there a comparable product available at a more affordable price?0

There are many comparable products at a fraction of the price. Personally I prefer pocket sprung with memory foam (which will give far better support).0 -
Any comparable products that you would recommend for me to consider?0

I'm afraid I can't recommend anything, as it could be viewed as advertising, which isn't why I am on here.0 -
I got mine from Dreams. Its called the Kildare, I don't think thedy have it now, but I'm sure they do it but under a new name.
Its all foam, no springs. It was expensive but its a superking with 4 drawers so thats as expensive a combo as you can get.
The thing that makes it different from ALL other memory foam mattresses I looked at (& I looked at them all) is it has a bound square edge like a traditional matteress & I like this so much better than the not square edge of all the other memory foam mattresses.
Had it nearly 2 years now I think. Still love it. DD says if it were hers she would go on the dole & stay in bed 24/7:rotfl:0 -

I think the matress is a little thinner but still similar

I nearly bought a Tempur celebrity, but the dreams one was nicer, the mattress was so fat & chunky, the Tempur ones seemed a little thin.0 -

He asked for peoples experiences of their own beds (not from sellers), I own one of the type he was asking about so I gave my honest opinion.
I worked out mine is 50p a night, I think its well worth that, so it is MSE:money:
You really need to deal with the fact that while you as a bed seller may hate the biggest bed retailer in the UK, the fact that they are the biggest mean a lot of people shop there so they are doing something right;)0 -

It's nothing to do with being a seller, it's personal opinion because I know how Dreams con people into paying far too much. Now I know that you were one of their victims, because you have been on most of the mattress threads to tell people that you paid loads of money for your Kildare mattress.
Now this is a money saving site, so most people on here want to save money, so I will repeat the FACTS (not just my opinion) about why shopping at Dreams isn't money saving.- Dreams have a fake price promise, because most of the products they sell have been renamed. This means that you can't buy them anywhere else, so they can charge what they want.
- They have a constant so called sale (just like MFI used to). All they do is sell each product in one or two stores for a couple of weeks a year, at their so called full price.
- The truth is that in most cases you can find the exact same model (although sometimes slightly higher spec) under another name for half the price elswhere (and I mean half the Dreams so called sale price).
There are many threads on MSE complaining about Dreams.0
