I have myself been out all day looking for a new bed and am also totally confused! I am a very hot sleeper and the bedroom is very warm so am worried about memory foam but I do suffer with lots of aches and pains and the foam topped mattresses felt very comfortable. Went into three major chains and each one gave me different advice. What I really want advice on is if I should just settle for a normal pocket sprung bed or go for the laytex topped version for the extra comfort? I have about £1000 to spend on a king size divan. Did you find the laytex top hot?

I find the memory foam a little bit warmer, I probably use the spring/autumn quilt a little further into winter. But TBH I'm a cold creature & thats a plus effect for me:D

I do like the snuggly soft feeling, like crawling into a cloud.

First of all it is made by Rest Assured who are part of the Silentnight group. Anyone who has read many of my posts will know that I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole if you want your mattress to last.

My sister has a Rest Assured, she's very happy with it, its not as comfortable as mine (to me) but it certainly feels comfortable.

Is it not possible that Silentnight being very big have different grades of brands within brands. Like car manufactures for instance? A large firm can hold a bog standard budget brand & a aspirational top class brand.

Aren't Bentley-VW-Skoda all the same group;)

Not foam encapsulated, you can tell from the side stitching.

    From http://www.bedtrader.co.uk/Rest-Assured-Rossini-1000-Pocket-Latex-4ft-6-Double-Bed-pr-19915.html

Rest Assured Rossini 1000 Pocket Latex 4ft 6 Double Bed
Rest Assured Beds Rossini 4ft 6 double 1000 Pocket Latex divan bed - excellant bed that would look right at home in your bedroom - traditional pocket springs with latex

Layers of Innergetic latex is luxuriously comfortable - easy to care for as there’s no need to turn the mattress - quilted mattress cover made from soft knitted fabric - side-stitched mattress border for a traditional look and a well supported sleep surface - Hypo Allergenic - easy no turn - sprung divan base for added comfort

You should know better than that. It is obviously simulated side stitching.

The problem isn't comfort, it's reliability and build quality, as I have mentioned with regards to the latex.

It would be nice if this was the case, but unfortunately with some brands it isn't.

Skoda are now just as good quality as VW. So they have improved quality to match the rest of the VW group. With SN it appears that they have dragged the others down as far as quality goes.

So Rest Assured are breaking the law by advertising natural latex. I can honestly say that I find my Rossini very comfortable and I don't want it to last 20 years (thinking all that dead skin and perspiration). I can just about rotate it with help but I definitely wouldn't be able to turn it, I think you would have to be very fit to do that as these mattresses weigh an awful lot.

The link that I saw didn't say natural latex. As far as I know the SN group use Innergetic latex. If you do some research on it you will see that it is a blend. So I don't know if they get around the law because it does contain some natural latex.

I always advise the use of a mattress protector to prevent dead skin and perspiration reaching the mattress.

There is an easy way to turn a mattress over, rather than trying to lift it up, then move the bottom across the bed, before dropping it back down as most people try to do. What you do is first of all clear the bedside table. Then take hold of the handles on one side, and drag the mattress towards you until the oposide edge is just on the bed. Then just flip it in one movement. I have a pine base with a footboard, and I actually find this easier than rotating it end to end (although this would be easier on a divan base).

Many people don't turn their mattresses over as often as they should. But even just turning it on rare occasions when there is someone to help you will massively increase the life of a mattress.

So after reading all the post I have come to the conclusion that if being cool while sleeping is my priority I would probably be best to avoid memory foam and probably laytex all together and just go for a pocket sprung bed. Are there any fabrics within pocket sprungs beds that I should look for or try and avoid?

If being cool whilst sleeping is your priority, then latex is the best option. Just make sure it is natural latex, and is a couple of inches deep, and covers the whole sleeping surface (rather than being in zones).

Thanks Tim. Do you think that latex topped would be cooler than pocket sprung alone? The bed I have seen is Rest Assured and I have emailed them to see if their latex is natural or mixed with man made stuff.

Yes it would be as long as it is natural, and about 2" deep over the full sleeping surface. And the springs need to be full size steel springs, rather than reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs that restrict air flow.

RestAssured use Innergetic latex. If you look it up you will see that it is a blend, and not natural. They also usually only use about a 20 to 25mm layer, and quite often it is only in zones, and doesn't cover the whole sleeping surface.
