Works well for me, data on Orange is slower GPRS (as advertised and expected); had no data access at all for about half an hour last night but that could be coincidental. All this around central and south London.

The big bonus is in my house, where before T-Mob would be one bar or nothing, I now have thee bars of Orange throughout.

I was with o2 before and Orange GPRS seems faster than o2 3G/HSDPA :-)

You don't have to select automatic. If it is automatic, it's the same position as before as you could roam onto ROI networks. But you can lock your phone manually to either Orange or T-Mobile. I'm using Orange cause it's a much better signal.

Ok so correct me if i'm wrong, would locking manually to either Orange or T-mobile not defeat the object of roaming between them when one or the other isn't getting a signal.

Where i am now i have a good Orange signal & none from T-mobile.
Half a mile down the road it's the reverse.
Another bit down the road if i have selected automatic it will take a signal from ROI even though i am in NI about 3 miles from the border.
Be good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.

Yes and no, you still have the option to choose the other network manually.

Round here T-Mobile is better than Orange, which is fine on a T-Mobile phone as that can be left on automatic. Orange is weaker (calls do break up and get dropped) but still present, so in order to prevent an Orange phone staying on Orange, T-Mobile has to be manually selected. Of course Orange can still then be manually selected if T-Mobile isn't present.

Anyone know if it is possible to edit the PRL to put the roaming network above the home network? I suspect not.

Please correct me if i'm not understanding correctly.

I have Desire on Tmob. I have signed up to roam on Orange because i travel with work so it will be handy.

I see that i can only get 2g network when roaming on Orange. So my data connection is much faster when on Tmob.

I've set up to automatically roam and It seems today on my travels that i spent most of the time on Orange with slow data connection. At those times i had to Switch to Tmob to get much faster Web on phone because the strenght of the signal dictates which network your connected too.

Its a bit of a pain switching back and and forth so i'm not sure its worth it. I think i'm going to stick on Tmob and then if i need a signal for calls i'll go to Orange

Something is wrong there. Are you sure the phone is set to 'select automatically' (under network operators) rather than you having picked Orange (under search networks) from the list?

The strength of the signal doesn't dictate it (unless the signal is too low to be usable) the order is

    T-Mobile 3G
    T-Mobile 2G
    Orange 2G

It would to the extent that it would automatically switch between Orange and T-Mobile, but it would prevent you from getting a nasty bill at the end of the month when you strayed onto ROI networks without noticing! I suppose it would only really be useful if one network gave an outstanding service everywhere you went and the other was fairly mediocre.

Between a rock and a hard place me thinks!

  • Im an Orange customer, ive signed up to the sharing and selected "Orange T-Mobile" from my networks list on my iphone.

On Orange I had a full 3G signal, I changed to the shared network and it goes to a bad 2G signal.

I get a worse signal by sharing?????
    Anyone else get this?
  • Just keep it at automatic. You've selected the T-Mobile network by selecting Orange T-Mobile, and only 2G is being shared at the moment. If you leave it as automatic, it will revert to T-Mobile automatically when you've got no signal on Orange.

I'm on Orange with a Desire and have just connected to the T-Mobile network for this first time. Get full signal in my flat, whereas on Orange I only get 1-2 bars. This is going to be excellent, especially when out in the sticks.
