I'm an Orange customer and can see the following networks when i do a manual network search....

    Orange
    vodafone UK
    O2- UK
    Orange T-Mobile

Same except the order and that I have T-Mobile Orange.
Since this roaming stuff though 3 UK has disappeared from the list, which is strange as I have a 3pay SIM and that still has a 3G signal.

There's my theory out the window about somehow the 'T-Mobile Orange' name over-riding the roaming indicator.
Whether you see the true network name or these (customer friendly??) names it doesn't really matter. I guess T-Mobile/Orange could have done a 3 and just called both of them either T-Mobile or Orange as appropriate.

How good is the Orange EDGE coverage? I've not seen it yet, but seen it reported.
Thinking it might be handy for those 2G only areas, as T-Mobile does not have EDGE.

It's better than my T-Mobile internet as I don't get 3G/3.5G where I am. So it's an advantage for me to be locked to Orange provided I stay where I am now. Although that's unrealistic, so I've left it at automatic as I expect to get 3G coverage on T-mobile when I start work.

    Found the answer.
    1400 EDGE sites

So shouldn't be too surprised that the Orange cell I pick up is GPRS only.

Yeah EDGE never really took off. By the time the networks had started converting to EDGE, they were ready to upgrade to 3G.

Yes it is. I'm with T-Mobile and am currently using the Orange network

What will you guys be doing around border areas to prevent roaming on ROI signals seeing you have to select automatic and not manual
as i have been doing when i go there?

    Thanks in advance.
Be good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.

You don't have to select automatic. If it is automatic, it's the same position as before as you could roam onto ROI networks. But you can lock your phone manually to either Orange or T-Mobile. I'm using Orange cause it's a much better signal.
