OMG Have you seen what animals and insects do on fruit & veg?

I'd stick to canned goods in future if I were you
Please spare us with the detail, you might start on my OCD and I may never eat fruits and veg again. :D If anyone wants to know, they can google.

u must wash ur feet constantly throughout the day too when u step in gum.

U have too much time on ur hands.
  • I dont know why people are being so silly with their comments- the op is correct it is disgusting- At least 2/3 members of staff would have had contact with that shopping so its not unreasonable to suggest that someone should have noticed it. Im sure if you went to a resturant and there was a piece of gum on the meal you would have something to say about it. Its gross

I agree, I am sure if the op rings customer services they will get a refund and maybe a code for free delivery.

That's just your opinion, and we are all entitled to have one. While one person may think it's disgusting another may think it's just one of those things and ignore it.

I agree, someone should have spotted it. Maybe someone did, but they were one of those who just think it is one of those things.

Yes, but you would expect an apology and the meal replaced, not compensation because it was brought to you in the first place.

Also, the gum was on the packaging not the food.

If the OP had been shopping in the store and picked up a pack with chewing gum stuck to it, she would have put it back and picked a different pack. So why expect compensation just because it was delivered? An apology and replacement item is enough.
  • Is this for real????? We are talking a peice of chewing gum, bin it and forget about it. If a £2 voucher would cover 'everything' in the same bag of the rice, it's hardly worth is it?
  • I don't know who brought this thread back up but its a good few weeks old, im the OP and no £2 would not have covered everything in the bag, i wrote to customer services about it as all I wanted was a simple apology and the refund for the rice! Customer services told me a colleague from my nearest store would call me, no phone call, so i emailed them two more times and got no reply, sick of their bad customer service i wrote to head office to complain about my original complaint and about their severe lack of customer service. I had a phone call from someone at head office the other day who was so much more helpful and actually apologized for it, he said it had obviously come from a member of staff and that he had spoken to the store about the incident, and phoned up the other store to find out why the colleague there did not ring me and he said he either forgot, or didnt get the info passed on to him. He has credited £10 to my asda account but to be honest i don't think im going to shop there again as if i do have a complaint it takes them weeks to sort out, where as a few weeks ago i complained to tesco about some meat which smelled rancid and had clearly gone off, they rang me the next day and it was all sorted, i didnt have to wait weeks or write various emails/make phone calls or write to head office to get it dealt with.

It was stuck on the oustide of a pack of rice...so the rice itself is OK. What else was in that shopping bag? If it was all things in sealed packets then the food itself won't have been affected. Obviously different matter if you had fresh fruit/veg/bread that could have come into direct contact. I'm also more inclined to think it was more likely to be kids as I've seen a group of lads doing that before in a store...and yes they did get collared by the store security at the time. Another possibility is that it was stuck in your shopping trolley.
I appreciate it's upsetting but you can't expect them to replace the whole of your shopping for this. If you got a £5 or £10 voucher and an apology I'd be pleased with that
